an order of sorcerers called Jedi

does anyone else think its weird they try to make it seem like the Jedi are this long forgotten myth even though they only lost power over the galaxy like 20 years ago?

Well thats the way they acted in the original trilogy. Han Solo and several Imperials didnt even believe in the force. If anything its a return to form.

Yeah, the Jedi are common knowledge to Star Wars fans, but they're almost like folklore to most people. Even by the time of Episode VII, Luke is a mythological figure.

There were only around 10000 Jedi during the PT and there's thousands of planets in the Star Wars galaxy with billions and billions of beings living on them. The vast majority of them would have little to no knowledge of the Jedi other than "they're like, wizards or something". Throw in a 20+ year propaganda campaign by Palpatine and the Empire to destroy any legitimate sources of knowledge of the Jedi and paint them as traitors and charlatans and the way they're treated by the time of the OT makes sense IMO.

Not believing in the force is pretty normal. Not everyone would buy into what the Jedi believe is the source of their power, and 20 years is a while to go without much demonstration of the force.

But the prequels well established them as intergalactic peacekeepers that everybody knows about. 20 years might be enough to not believe in the force but not enough to forget who they were or that they existed >_>

The original trilogy being clunky about it is handwavable because it was so early into the world building, but trying to push that narrative as the state of the galaxy now is kinda eyeroll worthy

simultaneously, it's also hard to believe how the empire became so established in its very short existence.

The Republic was extremely decentralized so the strict organization of a facist dictatorship with the central hub planets supplying manpower and resources could easily take the mid-range galaxy very quickly thanks to zero organization.
