Fourteen years at retail (grocery retail) is plenty. Its more than plenty.

I am finishing up getting a degree in December, so hopefully thatll lead to SOMEthing. Im not even looking for anything specific or a crazy amount of money.

I just want a stable job, with two days a week off, that isnt too far from where I live, that offers real benefits, where I dont have to worry about getting transferred, that isnt manual labor, that pays like $40,000 a year.

If you are finishing your degree and it is not at a local community college - check what programs they offer. They will usually only offer programs in industries that are looking for workers. If your degree is close to one of those programs, prospects are probably pretty good.

Grocery retail is horrible. I worked at Whole Foods for about 4-5 years and Sprouts for a few months. WF started off pretty good and I made a lot of friends, but it was already on a downtrend before I got there. Once the Amazon takeover happened it became quite abysmal. I got promoted three times in a short period of time, took a hiatus to serve in the Peace Corps, and then got fired because some upper management person dug up an email I had written from before the hiatus that didn't say what she said it said (basically I had broken a new policy and I was unaware of it, being in a leadership position that wasn't okay, but not being aware of the policy since it was new was a valid reason; until she dug up this email that she claims showed I was aware of the policy despite the fact that it was written before the policy ever went into place). Anyway, Sprouts was worse in every way imaginable which was pretty crazy. It's the most mismanaged place I've ever worked. I'm so happy to be out of grocery retail for good!

Its not even so much about not working (though, if given the opportunity to never have to work again, I would take it without a seconds hesitation ), its about not wanting to work my life away anymore. About not wanting to wake up at 5 am, drive 40 minutes to work because they sent me to a different store in my chain temporarily to help out while they find a person to permanently do what Im doing (rather than working at the store thats 15 minutes away from my apartment ). About not wanting to deal with customers who are either literally braindead or complete fucking assholes. About not wanting to haul shit around anymore (this job has completely taken a toll on my body and I dont think Ill ever truly recover from it). About making less than $35,000 a year. About not wanting to work six days a week anymore.

Even if I do have to work until the day I die, it wont be SO bad if I at least have a good balance of good and bad.
