How come there are no topics about this? Seems like a pretty big deal.

"In principle, a more water-loving life could hide itself away inside a protective shell of some sorts inside the sulphuric acid droplets,"

This could be the biggest discovery known to man, confirming that the universe is teeming with life.

"The authors also basically spend half the paper going through allllll the different possible ways to get phosphine in the atmosphere of Venus. If you go check "extended data Figure 10" in the paper they go through all of the options, from potential volcanic activity to being brought in from meteorites to lightning... and all those methods are either impossible in this case, or would not produce you the concentration levels needed to explain the signature by several orders of magnitude (like, literally a million times too little)."

Signs of life is misleading.

They discovered a chemical in the atmosphere of venus that on earth is only known to be found where living organisms are. Venus is largely inhabitable outside of a small section of the Atmosphere where it has Earth-like conditions and while the concept of a civilization living in the sky sounds cool, it's unlikely.

Still research into Venus itself is good as it's one of the more interesting planets in our solar system.

I was just thinking yesterday about Stephen Hawking's comment that if we keep fucking up our planet, Earth will end up like Venus. It made me think, what if that's actually what happened to Venus? Could make for a good sci fi story.

Nobody said it was a civilization int he sky. They think it's microbes. Which is still a big deal because it is the first life found outside of our planet.

there are some very fringe thinkers that actually believe humans descend from sapient life that fled from venus after rendering it uninhabitable, whether by emissions or war, though i don't personally buy it
