Pedo panic/satanic panic/etc. things have led to vigilante justice, false convictions, and traumatic experiences for many children who parents are trying to "protect' (e.g. trying to get them to confess to bad things that they think happened to them). In addition, it's usually a symptom of conspiracy theorists and often used as an avenue TO conspiracy theories.

So no, it's not just "harmless" to let people delude themselves into believing there are pedophiles all around out to get their children.

I'm not sure why this has to be a conservative vs liberal issue. I'm not conservative and I think some of the scenes of this movie are super questionable and not something that was needed to get the message across.

Maybe it's just me, but having 11 year olds do a stripper dance as the camera zooms on in their private area is just sketchy.

it's really weird stuff

when the poster came out everyone said it was inappropriate, it wasn't really a political issue. netflix got a lot of criticism for misrepresenting the film.

then it came out that the poster was an actual shot from the movie and that the scenes were even worse and suddenly you had a bunch of op-eds by dudes who look like they're not allowed near schools saying children had to exploited to make a point or whatever and anyone who disagrees is right-wing.

I think people saw "conservative family" in the description and thought "oh well then it's okay." Vox even has a whole piece defending it, blaming the backlash on QAnon culture or something. That's bullshit, it has nothing to do with QAnon... QAnon isn't even fucking real. It's only the fact that they used REAL children to perform sexually suggestive acts on camera and sold it for money. The film's message isn't lost on anyone, but there are a lot of other ways they could have gone about making the same point.

I'm too tired to engage in another manufactured controversy cooked up by a wealthy corporation's sociopathic marketing team. It's 2020 and there's more important shit on my plate already. So I'm ducking out of the movie for the time being. As consolation, I won't critique the film without seeing it, and I won't judge anyone based on their decision to see it or not. I just don't feel like answering the question on whether I'm a race traitor, pedophile, or priggish Amerloque.
