There isn't a problem with this, so long as the story is good. The story wasn't good. It works for stuff like Bioware's games as you are largely playing a character, but Bethesda's games you weren't playing a character, and were given freedom to be whatever you wanted. Narrowing it down was a big change, and not what people go to them for.
