Like, when people say that it's illogical I'm not going to disagree, and it does make the whole thing come off as kind of shoddy (as if the prank phone call with a your mom joke wasn't already enough for that), but...

Why didnt they use Y-wings? They are faster, have better handling, and have shields. Its weird because Y-wings were in episode VII and IX, but not episode VIII.
