I'm at the store buying some shirts cause my 4 other ones have way too many stains on them. So I pay for the items and the lady is like if she can get my email address to send me a 20% off coupon for my next purchase. I'm like whatever that's cool so I say my email address (bustednutz69@....) and the people in the fucking line behind me start laughing.

FUCK!!!!!!! Mind your own god damn business!!!!

The thing that I hate about the "email please" thing is Bath and Body Works over here will just ASSUME it.

"What's your email and a good phone number please?"

Not "Would you like to sign up for our rewards" but just "What's your contact information?"

I always say something really blunt like "not interested" or "no thanks" and my girlfriend always - ALWAYS - is like "you could have been nicer"

I'm always like "They could have just given me my bag of shit I bought and not asked for my personal phone number"

hate that bullshit

"Do you have a rewards card with us?"

"no"

"Would you like to sign up for one? You get 10% of your first purchase"

"do I sound at all interested whatsoever?" is usually the look I give them and then just "no"

...Again... they are trained and urged to ask that way. Retail (and debt collectors, fyi) claim its a presumptive sale.

Is it bs that tries to trap people who dont want to be rude? Yes. But not the fault of the cashier.

Some guy says "You know, I really hate the Bath and Body Works over here. They don't even ASK they just demand "What's your phone number and a good email?"

and your response is "YEAH! You tell that minimum wage cashier whose boss!" as if it is my life's work to go to Bath and Body Works and tell them I hate them.

...I go with my GF every so often. They are rude there. They make it so there is no way to respond without being rude.

There is no way to respond to "What's your phone number and a good email?" in the negatory without just being rude. I mean I GUESS I could say "no thank you", but they are not asking a yes/no question so it doesn't make sense. They leave me no choice but to literally be mean and say "Not interested"

They are trained to ask and more than likely they can get written up if they get discovered they aren't asking every customer that. I worked a customer care queue call job for about a year and every phonecall we had to say the same thing and if we didn't say those specific things our score would get docked.

Is it frustrating as a consumer? Sure. But its probably just as frustrating for the employee. Next time just say nah I'm good and move on.

Oh and I totally get it, they are trained to ask and you know that from experience because you've done it and you were trained that way too.

But, again, these Bath and Body Works folks are not asking. "What is your phone number and a good email?" is not a yes/no question where it is just polite. Either I say "Sure, here it is" and my info goes into their database and I dunno who the fuck they sell it to or what they do with it

Or I say "no thank you" which makes no sense to what they just asked and is just...grammatically not a correct answer

Or I do all that I can do: be rude and just say "nah" or "not interested" or "Why do you need it?". I mean it literally is what it is. It is just the 1 place nearby once a month or so.

Fine, next time they ask "What's your phone number?" I'll just fucking give them it. My god, woman!! LEAVE ME ALONE!

You ever just try, no thank you

or

not interested, sorry?

Doesnt have to be grammatically correct. Just be mindful of tone.

Yeah its a shitty way of framing the question as its more of a statement then a question. I want to say Home Depot is the same way.

In fact, the next time someone asks you "What are you doing this weekend?" just tell them "no thanks" like a normal person.

"Hey dude, long time no talk! Just wanted to text you and see what you've been up to?"

"No thanks"
