You mean the keffiyeh? Is that true? I thought it was pervasive throughout the Middle East. It's not like PoP was ever forthcoming what exact era the games took place in.

Also, he wore it in the original game as well.

It has more to do with the Arabian peninsula than what would constitute Persia

Not sure what's going on since I thought it was agreed Ubisoft had buried PoP the past decade in favor of churning out AC?

But I will say this for the topic, I thought it was already known that the Sands of Time aesthetic was actually arabian rather than persian? It's called prince of persia but if I remember right the prince and his father were invading some vague middle eastern/arab land.

The meh failed reboot of 2008 was the one that tried to be more persian if I recall, although not sure in what way

Kinda what I was saying. I'm not saying it's a good thing necessarily, but the setting is fantasy and a mishmash of cultures.

They invaded India to steal the Hourglass and Dagger of Time, and the game itself largely takes place in the Palace of Azad, which is in an undisclosed location in the Persian empire, I guess?

This was posted on Reddit the other day:

Ive worked in a big video game corporation before in a non-development function (think finance, sales, marketing, IT, etc.). I made a couple of friends along the way that branched out to other big video game companies.

I specifically reached out to one of them today and convinced them to give me something. Heres what I gathered from the conversation:

-Multiple Ubisoft studios have taken a stab at Prince of Persia in the past few years but none of them have been able to come up with a concept or prototype that met expectations to pursue a full blown game. I wont get specific about which studios but I will say that these were the big studios.
-There is a remake/remaster in the works but it is being handled by one of their lesser known studios. This may be the Sands of Time remake/remaster that has been trending recently.
-Now for the bad news... My source specially used the word remaster and Im not sure if they meant remake. But regardless of a remaster or a remake they were quick to point out that itll be disappointing... so dont expect something along the lines of SoC remake or REmake 2. They said that the remaster would serve as a quick check for Ubisoft to see if PoP is still relevant (in other words if the IP still packs a punch and will sell).

Some ending thoughts. My source is a POP fan themselves and they said theyve given up: Ubisoft is committed to their cash grab IPs. No confirmation on whether itll be revealed in the upcoming Ubisoft event because they honestly did not know.

As for me personally, I would absolutely love to be wrong. I would rather get downvoted and have a kick-ass PoP game. But, Im keeping my expectations low given Ubisofts track record.

Edit 1: Just for some clarification, they might have meant to say remake, but the point here is that even if it is a remake its not looking good.

Edit 2: Got confirmation that it is a remake not a remaster.

Like to me this almost sounds like it's set up to fail? Like given the quality of remakes we have coming out these days this comes across as exceptionally poor handling.

Yeah it's tough to get hyped for this given Ubi's record in the last few years, not to mention around the huge sexual misconduct scandal.

But hey, you can totally play an Ubi mobile game with Sam Fisher and other extrajudicial agents taking down a BLM/Antifa pastiche, so there's that?

Skimmed that reddit post, I did smirk at the "bad news" part, that made me lol. Like we didn't all already know what kind of company Ubisoft is like.

I replayed sands of time like 4 years ago on ps2 and honestly, ps2 is still fine with me. But if bringing sands of time to a new audience means the game will get new fans who appreciate what an amazing experience it was, and lead to interest in new games... well then all the better.
