the ending was excellent imo. i loved how renne finally joined up with estelle and joshua.

I was kind of hoping for a cliffhanger ending like Trails in the Sky FC. It's wrapped up pretty nicely, although theres some loose threads like how KeA ended up at the auction and I suppose everything about KeA

I wonder what the hell Oroborous are doing. Where were they?

I have half a mind to start Trails to Azure straight away, but Geofront are almost done with their translation so I'll probably wait for that...

The best part is that now your squad is respected! In the next game people treat you like you're big shots and it comes with a lot of useful perks. I love it when games make you feel like you really accomplished something.

Isn't there a way to get that on Steam? With a translation patch?

I've been eyeing Trails in the Sky and of Cold Steel, but if I start with Sky and like it, I know I'll be annoyed if I don't get to play Azure and Zero.

I really like the way it actually resolves the central plotlines while still leaving enough story threads hanging to keep you hungry for a sequel instead of just ending it on a cliffhanger like a lot of other Trails games

Azure is the best in the series imo

Zero was surprisingly amazing, since I heard it was a weak entry in the series. I liked Zero better than Ao for ~50-60% of Ao, since events were much more grounded and personal.

All of your questions will be addressed in the sequel.

There have been some updates to the translation that make it similar to Geofront. Other than a few misspellings I noticed in the entire game, adjusting controls and worse technical options, it was a smooth transition for me. The translation was only slightly worse than Geofront, but excellent all around. I used this collective improvements mod: https://imgur.com/a/bQOs4kX

Geofront will likely not finish this year, so I think it's still worth starting. If they do finish early, I imagine the upgrade will be seamless.

well you just download the translation from geofronts website and get the japanese version of the game from the internet since they dont sell it at physical stores in australia

They are already on their second editing pass so I'm fine with waiting for that tbh. I do want to get started with Azure but I think a breather will be good before I start doing more NPC rounds of crossbell

Have you tried Utawarerumono? I heard that's pretty Trails-y in terms of world building and character development. Same with Suikoden, which I recently picked up.

Yeah I'd say Suikoden is the closest to Trails I can think of. Suikoden 5 is extremely good and I've heard great things about the first two games. Luckily you can skip the bad 4th game and not be lost.

generally speaking, smaller casts that are more well developed are much better than larger casts that are developed sparingly if u catch my drift

I agree with your drift. I'm anxious to see all of the next arc's cast, hoping they learned from last time.

Early next year is considered "almost done" by normally patient people, especially when Zero took years.

Im fine with waiting a few months

But reises comments everywhere about cold steels cast make me worried :(
