I proposed on the spot we had our first kiss 10 years prior.

I was engaged, ended things before we actually got married though.

Anyway, I proposed in a very cheesy way. I made a trail of Hersey's kisses from the front door to the shower. I tied a dozen roses to the shower head with a note that read "Now that I've kissed the ground you walk on and showered you with roses, will you marry me?" I was behind her with the ring when she turned around.

I was abroad for school and so, after about a year, it felt like time to be engaged to my college sweetheart. So, there was the clich airport arrival proposal. Extremely dear, recommended for anyone who is certain of their decision and who is living apart for an extended period of time.

The most important things are that it be:
  1. As big a deal as they would want. You should know if they're a public or private person.
  2. Have some token related to your relationship specifically. Someone mentioned snack cakes. Ours had an engagement ring, but also a tasteful, naturally blue feather (viz Harvest Moon). Even a poem in reference during the proposal would be fine. There has to be an element of overwhelming endearment and uniqueness, but it can (ought!) be simple.
  3. Don't make any promises that will be embarrassing to you or inscrutable to your great-grandchildren in 90 years. No Doctor Who themed weddings, no silicone horse masks, no mocking assaults for you to film for likes. Nice things are nice. They should be kept nice.

This is some sterling advice.

Good post, good post.

Getting married in December, but

Elaborate plot involving pretending to be sending dick pics to women friends. Then coming clean and proposing and showing her that I had actually been sending them pictures of the engagement ring.

i did it in the ocean which is the most ill advised thing to do aside from maybe doing it on a hot air balloon.

we were snorkling in hawaii and it felt like a bunch of turtles appeared out of nowhere. so we were swimming with a bunch of turtles right by us, she was excited af, boom.
