I always go through G2A whenever I buy a game on steam, unless it's duringthe spring/summer sale. They're a great website.

Find cheapest deals here from authorized resellers
https://gg.deals/us/

For grey market I rather use
https://www.cdkeys.com/

G2A is a marketplace like ebay with several sellers that may give you stolen keys/codes or whatever. G2A is also known to have bad customer service if something does go wrong and the extra protection that you can pay extra for is usually useless.

Stolen credit cards.

Don't think Steam will ban your account, but they will ban the key you used to redeem the game, locking you out from that accessing that game.

Sometimes the sellers use stolen credit card info to buy keys than sell them on G2A. I don't think anyone gets banned from Steam but people have had their keys/game removed from their library before. Other grey market sellers basically buy keys in bulk in a cheaper region (ex. India or Brazil) than sell them to other regions. These keys are generally safe but seen as bad for the developers and publishers as they get way less money.

Apparently they steal credit cards and buy keys, then sell the keys off for profit on G2A. And then there's issues where Indie devs have encouraged people to illegally download their game rather than get it off G2A because they don't get paid for G2A sales.

Don't buy or support G2A. You might think "well I'll just make super sure I'm buying a legit key" except even when you do, G2A fucks over the seller.

Fanatical (Bundle Stars) is the best 3rd party key seller. All their keys come from the publishers.
https://www.fanatical.com/en/

Also get keys from Amazon, Humble Bundle, and a few other places for more niche shit.

a used game isnt a stolen game
there are no used product keys
should you be allowed to de-activate a game on your account, reclaim the key and then sell the key on ebay or something? yes.
should that be enforced by law, so developers cannot prevent you from de-activating and reselling a key? yes.
but thats completely different from stealing someones credit card and using their money to buy yourself a game

quote where i said rika buys games at gamestop and i will send you a $50 steam card. if you can't figure out the connection between one used game retailer and another used game retailer. That's on you.

Publishers cry about used game sales no matter the medium. Theft is a risk on used sales, no matter the medium.

If you cry about publishers not getting money from G2A, you better not think it's okay when Amazon, Gamestop, Gamefly, Glyde, Local retailers, and 200 other chains and websites do it as well. You better not have been one of the people crying about when microsoft was trying to combat used sales when the x1 launched. And has now become very successful in getting people to commit to renting games outright with gamepass.

But hypocrites have never been good at facing their hypocrisy. Now keep parroting what someone else told you to think because you never actually stopped to think about yourself.

I wouldn't use a site if it sells stuff for a suspiciously low price, but I understand that they exist, and not just for the low price. If game companies would just keep selling all the games they ever made or declare it abandonware, sites like G2A would have much less reason to exist. Like, how else are people supposed to get a game they really loved as a kid, but is no longer for sale in legitimate stores?

I believe I do. Although I can believe it's mostly about making profit in a seemingly legally grey area, I was expressing one of the motivations people seek out such places. Hell, I've been tempted to buy some stuff there I couldn't get anywhere else, and the low price would just be a bonus.

That's why some indie developers actually prefer you pirate instead of buy from G2A.
