On-topic: Yes it's a fantastic game. Only real missing items are a decent main story and the fact that it's a silent protag game. Also having to go back and recruit each member whenever you want them in your party is silly

Combat is fun, quests are good, exploration is phenomenal, music is top tier, the map is one solid chunk with nonexistent loading times, side-quests / affinity missions are great insights into the development of other party members and NPCs

One of the best games of the past decade. It's got an absolutely massive open world, some of the most unrestricted movement I've ever seen in said open world, even without the giant mechs you eventually get. Being an alien planet, you get to see shit you just don't see in other open-world games. With one of the main motivations of your character being to survey the world, you have motivation to explore and are rewarded handsomely for doing so. Game's also absolutely gorgeous, and while the soundtrack is divisive, I love almost every piece of music the game has.

There are a whopping 17 playable characters who all have at least 3 sidequests fully dedicated to them and their development on top of tons of non-party sidequests dedicated to characters who also have their own development and relationships. The main story is probably 10% of the game, if even that, and the focus of the game is almost purely on you going around and exploring every facet of a society trying to survive, with plenty of alternate endings that changes who lives, who dies, and what other sidequests are open to you.

The combat definitely suffers from information overload and it's highly recommended that you look up some kind of tutorial, but it's absolutely wonderful how customizable your character is. There are a whopping 12 weapon types, 6 ranged and 6 melee, each with their own abilities and playstyles that you can mix and match to truly make your character your own, and there's even more customization beyond that. Higher-level play does get bogged down in grinding out specific materials to make specific weapons and augments to fight specific enemies, but I'm 170 hours deep and I haven't had to deal with that.

The game has a steep barrier to entry, demands a lot of time from you, and doesn't really open up until 10-20 hours in, but with how dense the game is with features, I think it's for the best. I can't recommend at least trying it out enough.

I can vouch for the world being expansive and beautiful. And I can agree that the combat and weapons are fun.

But I will say the main story gets really dumb and and character who isn't Elma or Lin may as well be a blank slate outside of their side quest.

The soundtrack has some good tracks and some bad track.

God damn, what a write up, appreciated. I've been itching for a tech heavy game that I can kind of just waste time in lol.

Hmmm, it has to be good. I really dislike a mute protanist and K hate someone else got the center of attention like elma. It should've been my story but I realize I just tagging along to tell someone else story. The only i've ever got to ever having any impact to the story when i've got blasted by those alien and it was revealed that everyone there including elma was actually a robot all along. It doesnt matter af all of elma found me or not. Mute protagonist is a bad idea for xenoblade game. @PatrickMahomes

It had alot of really cool ideas, but for everyone that worked a few more didn't. Theres some mechanic's you're probably never become aware of, hell, I had no idea you could even recuit more party members until like half or 3/4ths through the game.

A pity becuase many of them actually had very intriguing storys. But are irrelevant to the main story.

I enjoyed the hub city...,music aside. Especially as it became more populated with alien races and facilitys. And the overworld was amazingly well done. Butnits experience is somewhat dampened by flight that they really should have locked behind post game in my opinion.

I would agree, but you have to approach XCX like it isn't a traditional xenoblade game. 1 and 2 are more story-driven standard RPGs, whereas this is more open world / go at your own pace. Mute protag isn't my favorite either, but it works to a certain extent in XCX.

Well, it has a character called H.B. who easily brings the game into the Good category just by being in.

But yeah it's a game that lives through its sidequests. The main story is kind of janky and seems kind of rushed, but the sidequests and their stories definitely had more thought and care put into them.

The soundtrack for the game is amazing IMO although I vaguely recall some looping problems and some tracks that you hear TOO MUCH that you end up getting sick of Lots of hate is directed towards the battle theme and city music, but I personally like the battle theme and only got sick of the city music since I spent a lot of time in the city. Most complaints only pretend those are the only music that exist in the game though, so just a heads up in case you're getting a second opinion from elsewhere.

Combat is great, but like Garoshi said there's a lot of info to learn and I especially recommend reading up on the Overdrive once you unlock it because I never understood that even after beating the game. Lots of weapon types to choose from if you're a fan of character customization, although I will say that the Augment system is really dumb and cheeses the game real hard if you know how to break it.

Exploration is amazing too since there's 5 huge continents each distinct from each other and are chock full of stuff to places to explore, along with rewards for doing so. Although you unlock a certain something later on (as Prismsblade says) that kinda cheapened it.

The game is like the Wii U's only exclusive left worth having now that everything has already come to the Switch, and honestly if you're already open to it I highly recommend getting it.

It has some really weird design choices and the main story is unsatisfying. It could have used more time in development. But the side quests are excellent and its really fun to traverse the world. I wish it had a fog of war style map though. The battle system with its customization can be really complex if youre into that sort of thing.

It plays good for the most part.

With the story, though, ehhhhh. It's easily MonolithSoft's worst RPG in that aspect, and that's my biggest dislike of it.

The soundtrack is great though.

I wish I could play it again for the first time.

imo it has the best gameplay out of the 3 easily. Though it's side quests and world building blow the other two out of the water.
