Do you still play the lottery even though the odds are against you?

The odds of winning America's most popular lotto is 1 and 292 million. In Canada's most popular lotto game it's 1 and 33 million...still not good odds. However, in one of Canada's lottery systems, there is a GUARANTEED winner in it's popular 6/49 game where the computer will randomly pick a winner based on ONLY the number of tickets sold that week and they will win 1 MILLION!!...so now your odds are even better in Canada's lottery game...whereas in America you need to match all but 1 number to even get the second prize of a 6 figure and even that's not guaranteed... I play it maybe a couple of times a year for the hell of it. I'm aware i'm throwing money away when I do.

I'll play it if the jackpot gets crazy just for the lolz. Obviously never gonna win and yeah it's basically throwing away money but everyone throws away money sometimes. Throwing away money is fun.

There's nothing wrong with tossing in a buck here or there. You're really playing for small happy fantasies and like a 1/60 chance to win your money back. The nutballs who buy it religiously thinking they're going to be rescued from their current lifestyle are really sad though.

I use to sell lotto tickets at an old job and while there were a lot of people that consistently played the lotto, they were nothing compared to scratcher people. Scratcher people are just straight up gambling addicts. I know this really sweet old lady customer who wound come in and just play scratchers for hours every day. She'd just stand there at the counter spending hundreds. The thing with her was, at one point she won $100k and they win basically justified all her gambling in her mind. It was a sorry sight. ...
