It felt more streamlined (I think Galaxy 1 struggled a bit with the multiple stars for each level mechanic), had incredible music, and cut the fat (so to speak). Galaxy 2 is just some leftover stages that didn't make it into Galaxy 1 and a bunch of half-assed bullshit like stages literally rehashed from Sunshine and Galaxy, the godawful Fluzzard stages with dysfunctional motion detection, tacked on low effort Green Stars, and of course, Battle Belt Galaxy. The laziest stage I've ever seen. Galaxy 1 was the masterpiece. Galaxy 2 is like an expansion pack made by someone else. Like those expansion packs they made for Diablo 1 and Starcraft. Final Bowser stage theme was great though. Still better than 3D Land 1 and 2 however.
