I'm in the process of moving between cities for work. I moved most of my things last weekend, and I drove back to get the rest this weekend. Yes I can afford a moving company, but this saves me money.

I booked a hotel in my local city. Drove five and half from the new one back. Went to check in and they denied it because my driver's license was local. I was stunned. I called up another hotel. They told me the same thing. Called up another. Said the same thing.

One of these hotels I stayed at for like a 10 days back in May/June when my AC was getting worked on. They didn't have a problem then. I eventually talked one of the hotels in letting me stay. I have access to the house, and I could have stayed there. But most of my stuff is gone. So, I really preferred staying in a hotel tonight.

Things is, I was paying with a credit card. They could have billed me for any damages.

Have any of you had this happen before?

Common practice to prevent locals from having parties or prostitutes. Usually one of the rules it's ok to bend, but not everywhere will.

This is a lot more common than you'd think, honestly. I think just about all hotels around here don't permit locals, unless your home burned or flooded and you have the insurance claim to prove that you cannot stay there, or if it's being fumigated, again, with documented proof.
