I just moved from a small apartment to a 3 floor townhome/condo and unfortunately, crappy Comcast/Xfinity is the only option out here still. Their router was fine for the small place I used to be in, but now, the internet signal gets lost ALL. THE. TIME. can anybody recommend any good routers? I have several devices/systems that will be using it. Im an occasional online gamer, but more often I use streaming services.

Thanks in advance!

Have you called Comcast so they can check to see if your router is losing signal from them? If that's the case, then they'd need to fix that before you consider getting a new router.

Its been awhile since Ive shopped for a router. The general rules of thumb are that modem/router combos suck and external antennas are good.

I called xfinity last week. They sent somebody out Friday who fixed it. Then Monday it went out again. So I called and they set me up another appointment for this evening. But it worked all day yesterday, so this morning I cancelled my appointment because I didnt want to be charged for a pointless visit. Then an hour later, it went out again, almost like they waited for me to cancel and then went out just to mess with me. So frustrating. I literally moved down the street not even a quarter mile and never had this issue at the last place.

Depends on your budget. I recently did a little research to find a good budget router and this is what I settled on:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B079JD7F7G/

I'm getting great speeds on it tbh, but for a place of that size you might need a range extender. Maybe a range extender with whatever router you have will do the job.

Edit: For reference I typically have ~8 devices connected to this router: 4 ethernet and 4 over wifi. Max speeds are usually around 220mbps to 230mbps on download.

Have you tried splitting the connection on the router you have now? I'm not really good at tech stuff, but you should be able to login as an admin and navigate to the option where you can separate the connection to 2.4GHz and 5GHz. Name the 5GHz network something different and try connecting to that one. I don't know the tech mumbo jumbo behind it but this greatly increased my speed. It's worth a try I think, you can always change it back.
