At one point we had anti-trust laws and laws against corruption. The U.S. was corrupted.

Even good ol liberal hero Obama is anti collective action...which is probably the only real peaceful action people can collectively take to maybe take back power. Strikes and Boycotts.

In the '80s some 50 different corporations controlled the newscycle.

Today we have 5 different corporations.

Trump is a terrible oaf but he isnt the criminal mastermind undoing america. That dude is the tony the tiger of fascism. He's the mascot for a whole lotta other dudes behind the scene. Obama helped further erode the constitution and extend the reach of executive power. He's helped us americans get here too.

Your argument is that is hasn't yet worked so it can never work? I gotta be honest here. Most of my socialist history hasn't yet touched on more modern eras. I can see how fully functioning capitalism is hurting people and destroying the world. There are other people who have put forward healthier more empathetic ways society could function. Ways in which are less exploitative. We shouldn't be deterred because socialism hasn't been perfectly implemented before. If anything, we should be motivated seeing where our current system has gotten us while being fully operational.

Smedly Butler wrote in 1935 a book called "War Is A Racket" where he details from his experience as an American General war existing as a function for private corporations to profit while passing the expenses/cost of it to all americans. This model of privatized profits and socialized costs is how the government has functioned for at least a hundred years. Interesting enough, Smedley also testified in congress that corporations pitched to him a plan of organizing a fascist coup of America but he declined. Butler's experiences are what led him to being Anti-Capitalist for the rest of his life.
