Are you playing the DS version? Because it's even worse in the original.

In the Super Famicom version Nera can't level up past level 10 so it's a double-whammy of making you feel bad

Aren't the wife characters mostly useless in combat anyway? I think the only thing she gets over Bianca in the end is one or two spells.

Running around with a Slime Knight, a Heal Slime, and a Cure Slime at the moment.. Nothing whatsoever is going to be killing me any time soon anyway. I think Golem is gen 3, though. I remember using Golem long ago on the original version.
