...why hadnt more of them been sent to Earth already?

Everyone was acting like Jor-El was some maniac for sending his son off-world, but surely people like Zod would absolutely love to travel to planets with yellow suns and dominate them.

The kryptonians once maintained a massive galactic empire but at some point realized what they were doing was wrong and pulled everyone back to Krypton.

You can actually see Zod goes to one of those conquered planets to get a terraforming device off it.

Nothing because we arent solar powered batteries like Kryptonians are. Its been used against Superman is the past and didnt have an effect on anyone else.

What really doesn't make sense is the fact that they're specifically terraforming Earth to have a garbage atmosphere like Krypton, when the Earth's atmosphere is not only perfectly breathable for them, but actually better for them!
Also, I guess they invented a terraforming machine, but somehow never figured out how to generate an artificial magnetic field? And does our sun's radiation even bother them? Because if it's actively good for them, they could just go terraform Venus or Mars and be better off!

They really went out of their way to make Zod as senselessly evil and stupid as possible.

A slow agonizing death from rickets, probably.

The genetic codex for kryptonians was on earth, not Mars or Venus. Also the sun is far enough away from Mars that it probably wouldn't give them super powers.

Does Superman need to do a lot of nude sunbathing to charge his powers? Asking for a friend.

No. Doesn't matter what clothes he's wearing as long as the clothes aren't 4 inch thick lead plates.

They had a ship. They could've left with the codex. And they could have gone to Mars because they weren't trying to keep their powers, hence the terraforming.

The Codex was part of Superman's DNA, because Zor-El thought Krypton didn't deserve another chance, which is why they needed to kill Superman for it.

Granted, if they went to Mars or something and then asked Supes for help, he might have actually given it. But given that Krypton seems to be a Brave New World totalitarian state where ever function was determined from birth, and Clark probably had to read Brave New World in high school or something, he maybe wouldn't have because it sounds so clearly evil.

They tried. Superman refused to join Zod.

The first part was not in the movie but was exposition. The second part was in the movie but extremely brief. It's also consistent with the comics. It's not like Zack Snyder made it up.

I thought the entire point was that Krypton's civilization had declined and stagnated and was completely beyond saving. At one point, the Kryptonians traveled the stars, discovered how to make other planets like their own, and generally had grand ambitions. They went from that to living in one single solar system. When faced with an energy crisis, the government--which should in theory be made up of genetically superior people good at governance--chose to take an unsustainable action that would destroy the entire planet and kill them all instead of doing literally anything else. Zod sees that Earth's environment would give his future armies and people a massive advantage over everyone else in the universe, and the decides Earth still needs to be made into a second Krypton because that's how things were before.

The ship that Superman recovers from under the ice was absolutely ancient, yet the technology looked about the same as what they had on Krypton when he was sent away. I'm not familiar with the comics, but I got the impression that nobody had invented much of anything since the expansionist era. It reminds me a lot of the Tommyknockers. They are capable of building and doing miraculous things, but there is no will for it and they are all collectively too stupid to have original ideas.

Well they invented one thing. A means to tap into the core of the planet for energy

No this isn't what happened. They didn't need to kill Superman and actually did extract it from him on their ship. He destroyed it later with his heat vision ("Krypton had it's chance!!")
