E.g. getting a higher rate for being a man instead of a woman, or getting a higher rate for living in X neighbourhood over Y neighbourhood, and so on.

I understand the basic maths of it. They are just making statistical guesses based on how much they can charge before you'll go with someone else versus how little they can charge and still make money, and then weighing up the risk of you making a claim based on your demographic, yada yada

Men are more likely to get in accidents than women based on statistics, this neighbourhood is more dangerous than that neighbourhood, etc.

So yeah, I get the mechanics. That doesn't need explaining.

But to continue, imagine statistics showed that X race had more accidents than Y race. Or Sexual Orientation A was more likely to get in accidents than B orientation. Not for any known reason - just that statistically that seemed to be the case.

In other words, you fill out on the quote form that you are black, and that automatically bumps you up into a higher price bracket, because statistics. That seems absurd but it's literally what is already happening with other categories.

It's already a question over whether using DNA will become an insurance consideration. I don't like all this man.
