Just so we understand, that specific study they quote. Is from one department and considered yelling as domestic dispute. It is also from 1991. The statistics now show cops actually have a lower number. By far

This post addresses the number

I know for a fact Ive called you out on this before ...

Its amazing how you post this but don't even post the best comment from the AskSocialScience thread. Maybe because it doesn't agree with the information you cite later to show how "these" statistics are wrong.

It could very well be true, but it's kind of hard to believe these people in particular when they admit to using a small sample size and outdated data. That's the sign of a bad study being propped up for a juicy headline.

Its not a bad study in half the way you're suggesting. The reason why it's old and the sample size is small is due to the difficulty in even researching this topic. You clearly read enough of the interview to know about the flaws in the data, but clearly avoid addressing the rebuttals to it. From the article:

We should consider why the data is nonexistent or decades old. Why is no one looking at a massive issue of public interest? Ive been working on updating my book for a third edition. Doing research Ive found 40 examples of cops in the United States murdering their spouses. Thats over just three years.

the statistics ARE wrong and ARE outdated

and if were using the statistics of 40 cops in 3 years killing their spouse(which I would like to see)

would make that under 1 percent of cops

Its kind of tiresome having to account for <1 percent of police officers

You never showed how they're wrong, but I agree they are outdated.

So domestic violence is only killing your spouse now?

And to continue your intellectual dishonesty, you still haven't addressed this

There are a number of flaws with the aforementioned study:
The study includes as 'violent incidents' a one time push, shove, shout, loss of temper, or an incidents where a spouse acted out in anger. These do not meet the legal standard for domestic violence.
This... is not the devastating flaw you think it is

The idea that were basing a study off 1 police department, where even being just angry is Considered domestic violence. Shows the statistic is inherently wrong
