I wish things were different. I expected the film to be Michael vs Tom. How do you think the film would have played out if Robert Duvall reprised the role?

People shit on that movie, but it has some of the best scenes in the entire trilogy. Michael confessing in the garden and his daughter dying in his arms as he screams out in agony are fantastic scenes.

It also has the only bad scenes in the entire trilogy. That's the problem.

This. Also, Michael's story was complete at the end of part II. He goes from bright-eyed young man to full evil to totally alone. You get his beginning his rise and his downfall in I and II. Part III does cheapen what came before it simply by existing at all, good or bad.

I see part III more as the consequences of what he did in parts I and II finally coming to fruition.

Yeah, those are good scenes.

But the whole plot about trying to stop the mob from whacking the Pope..... what the fuck?!

While I hated that plot in the movie, it was based on the suspecious events surrounding the death of the Pope in 1978.
