Isabella Lvin is leader of the Green Party who govern together with the Socialdemocrats since October 2014. Lvin has been party leader and Vice Prime-Minister since 2016.

She held a seat in the European Parliament before that and was allegedly a key person behind the Paris Agreement. She never gained popularity as party leader and Vice PM though. Her party has a tendency to focus more on working for a return to our old generous immigration laws, which puts them on collision course with their Government partner the Socialdemocrats, than their environment policies. Isabella got lost in this intraparty mess since her strength is the environment.

She will remain on her post until a successor can be chosen at the start of 2021.

She cites fatigue with politics as her reason to resign. This does give the party time to rally around a new leader who can build a national platform ahead of the election in 2022. The Greens could sure need that since they keep polling just above or below the 4% threshold.

Taxing the rich to oblivion so poor people can live off welfare must have been too much for her.

More like the implementation of several tougher immigration laws in the end of 2015 and beyond have made many in her party sad.

Can't blame her for the downward spiral Sweden has been on for awhile now. I wouldn't want to associate with the ruling class either

What's the general feeling in Sweden regarding this news? I had the perception for some time that she could be a real force for change with all the policies she was pushing

I think that's just a reflection of the state of the board/site in general in recent years, though maybe I'm looking at the past with rose-tinted glasses

The general feeling is that it was the right choice since she hadnt seemed to be into her job lately. She felt ready to move on to something else career wise and it turned out to be how she actually felt herself. She wrote in her public resignation letter that being a politician and having power over a country is an honour you borrow and should give back within a reasonable time span.

A lot of formerly green voters are really disappointed because they greens have bent over on big environmental issues. The local party in Stockholm formed a coalition with the right wing which had proceeded to shut down public services like libraries. The reaction I'm hearing is mostly "meh, they need a change".

Does polling under 4% keep them from getting seats or something? I really like these topics in helping me understand how your government works.
Exactly, if they're under 4% in the election they get no seats. That would drastically repaint the map

Yeah that's a reasonable response. I mean the trends definitely seem worrying from what I can see. SD continues to take larger shares while the others seem to be on the downturn. We're seeing similar trends in Germany but not quite to the same degree I don't think

SD did shrink a bit during the early stages of covid, not sure if they've recovered from that yet. Their response has been pretty lame.

How AfD was generally trending (e.g. Thringen), though they've also been doing worse since the Corona Crisis
