Most fans would agree that one of the worst aspects of Big Brother is the blatant racism shown by a handful of contestants over the series 22 seasons. Each year without fail, at least one competitor displays their ignorance through a flippant comment or straight-up slur, the kind that forms a pit in your stomach. But on the current season of the CBS show, a new debate has been sparked over statements made by houseguest DaVonne Rogers, who is Black. Is it racist to vote to save a fellow Black player based solely on the fact that he or she is a person of color?

On a recent episode of the long-running series, DaVonne who previously competed on Seasons 17 and 18 admitted that she would never vote out cast member David Alexander because he is Black, even though keeping him in the game doesnt help her. Some viewers immediately took issue with the fact that the 32-year-old, who goes by "Day," is voting with race in mind. "Imagine what would happen if a white houseguest said, 'I'm going to vote for Nicola to stay because she's white,'" one individual commented on reddit. "I wouldn't be surprised if production would consider pulling that hypothetical person from the house if they said that."

the context for this is that last season had a lot of racial issues, i.e. the house voted out all the nonwhite ppl first and some of the houseguests were recorded saying some pretty racist stuff. then this season the black guy who was voted out first for neason last season was put on the block in like week 1 or 2

The black guy wasn't voted out first week last season, he went out on a twist the first night... No voting involved. And he was put up because Memphis is a dumbass and wanted to 'lay low'

I saw her say it live and thought it was a little odd, but i wasn't offended or outraged lol

It's not that she wants a black person to win - she won't vote him out specifically because he's black. Context of this season, the black dude isnt working with her (not yet at least) and she kept him over someone she created an alliance with week 1 and told her that she couldnt save her because she morally cant vote out a black man regardless of whether it benefits her or not.

Her name is Nicole Anthony, theres a contestant this season also named Nicole Franziel; so they've called them Nicolef (As well as Ratcole) and Nicola to distinguish

It's no different than wanting to go in and work with nothing but women. The only issue is that white men get called all sorts of things when they team up.

But like the second post said, last season was horribly racist

The only issue I have with it in the game is that David is just f'n terrible and is now going to get dragged to the end to beat. I can see see it now - The 3 of them stay together and united and make it near the end. Some of them are going to have to get going, because I doubt they're making Final 3 since I don't see much winning coming from them. But I don't really remember how good Da'Vonne and Bayleigh were in comps. Then since David is the worst of their three, the other Housemates are going to take him to the end and we're going to end up with either David winning for being terrible or a white person will win, and people will say it's racist for not voting for the bad player. Hopefully David will finally start playing and prove everyone wrong. But right now, he's looking like the Final 2 pick to beat

Also, I do find it kind of BS how she they don't include Kevin in this, and I think Kevin has brought this up, but I'm not sure. I try not to spoil myself too much, but you don't get any of the good stuff on the real shows

oh yea i dont think there was any problem putting him up, i think it was more that the other guys made racist comments about him and the black girl from last season.

for this season i think david was put up because he's an easy target and honestly not very good at BB, but i can see how people that watched last season would not feel excited to vote for him this early on in the game. i think hes going to be one of those handful of cannon fodder BB houseguests every season has when the big alliance of attractive white instagram influencer types needs to put up people but not make any significant moves

To be fair, Big Brother isn't really the average reality show. The live feeds make it a lot better than anything else in the genre. You get to really study the personalities of people. Yes, the TV show can be pretty bad at times, but there is really good stuff that goes on during the show that often goes unnoticed
