Obviously against. You'd have to be a genuine maniac to think that people outside of the medical field with no information about an individual have any place drugging anyone period, let alone someone who isn't consenting.

Police stopped Elijah McClain on the street in suburban Denver last year after deeming the young Black man suspicious. He was thrown into a chokehold, threatened with a dog and stun gun, then subjected to another law enforcement tool before he died: a drug called ketamine.

I support charging the cops with murder or negligent homicide at the least.

This is why police defunding needs to be seriously considered. Police are winding up with more tools in their arsenals than they have the training to properly handle, and between that lack of training and the temptation to take advantage of any given situation to try out whatever shiny new toys they've gotten their hands on, people end up dead.

Fewer new things to figure out and more time focusing on going over how to safely and effectively utilize more basic tools is exactly what precincts like this need, and reducing funding on a case-by-case basis dependent on incidents of excessive force/brutality and accidental/unjust killings will incentivize striving for a higher standard of police conduct. America needs this.

I'm not arguing for its use by cops in forcefully sedating humans, just offering some explanation as to why, but ketamine does have sedative properties. Recreationally it's generally used as a comedown drug for raves and parties because of this. Like after a night of MDMA, cocaine, and other uppers/stimulants, it can help take the edge off. It's popularly known as a disassociative psychedelic, due to the possibility of a k-hole if enough is taken, but it's also being researched and tested as an anti-depressant. And anecdotally there's a lot of testimony from recreational users attesting to its anti-depressant qualities. Ketamine, in very high doses, is also used as a horse tranquilizer.

I don't think people with no medical training should be administering drugs to people, especially when they have no knowledge of this person's allergies or medical history. I also think, despite its sedating and tranquilizing properties, ketamine is not the best choice due to the possibility of a disassociative trip. If someone is behaving erratically, the last thing you want is to give something that could trigger psychosis.

Kinda wonder how something like that even gets approved in the first place.

idk, seems messy. They should go with knockout gas instead. I've seen a lot of tv shows where that's worked perfectly, even in open, well-ventilated areas when the user of the gas. It's even more impressive because apparently it can be aimed with such precision that it only knocks out one person and not the ones next to them
