I'd try diluting distilled vinegar with an essential oil (like orange or lemon) to wipe down the cupboard. The vinegar does the cleaning, and the oil removes the onion (and vinegar) smells.

Keep the cupboard open so it can dissipate. Onions are very aromatic so its gonna be a while until the odor is totally gone. In the meantime peppermint oil and store bought air fresheners should help

Just avoid that Febreze stuff. Nothing gets rid of the smell of that. I think a so called smell neutralizer shouldn't leave any sort of smell.
