Your unit has 40 HP. Which one would you be more confident in having them attack? (Your unit will not defeat them with their one attack, but your next one can finish the job.)

Enemy A:
  • 50% Hit Rate
  • 22 Dmg for each hit
  • 0% Crit chance
  • Will attack twice
Enemy B:
  • 100% Hit Rate.
  • 15 Dmg for each hit
  • 25% Crit chance
  • Will attack once

Unit A is less likely to kill you. AFAIK, hit rate is skewed in the player's favour in the more recent FE games.

Exactly what I was going to say, the hit rate isn't the true chance

Honestly, I don't like either of those scenarios and would only go make that attack if I had to, but I would prefer to attack enemy A. Though they have the same percentage to kill me (25%) there is a better chance with enemy A not damaging me at all.

If I had to attack one, I would go for Enemy A. At least there is a decent chance to not take damage. In the second case, some damage is guaranteed and will make you a weaker target for other enemy units.

Actually, I just checked. If the crit roll is calculated the same way as the hit roll, in FE 1-5 and Echoes it's the same chance your unit dies, in FE 6-13 enemy B is less likely to kill you. Fates is more convoluted, but I think once again they're both equally likely to kill your unit. I've no idea how 3H works.

enemy B is a guaranteed hit (unless you kill them) and chance to crit

which metric for crits are we using? double damage? triple damage? double attack (as in, if unit's str + weapon mt = 40, then a crit would use 80 as the base number, and this is the number that would hit the enemy)

honestly though it's a no-brainer either way.

though I would like to point out that the title and the post are asking the opposite thing, so your results are probably skewed in some way

in some of the games, crit is calculated before hit, meaning that if you score a crit, you hit even if you wouldn't have hit otherwise

Triple. That's how it's worked in all the FE games I've played.

Yeah, I noticed after I made the topic, but there were already votes there, so I decided to leave it.

It's fire emblem.

If an enemy unit can crit, they will crit.

B is more dangerous because of crits and guaranteed hits
