People forget that a huge part of the Zelda cycle isn't just that you lose the love of a Zelda game, it's that you believe that you were never in love in the first place. That your current middling opinion was there the first time you played.

It was positive, but people felt tired of the Zelda formula by then.

I loved the game though. I thought the presentation was among the best the series ever had to offer. I felt more legitimately heroic in that game than any other game in the franchise. I feel like it gets a worse rap than it deserved, but I think it's mostly YMMV with the formula.

I didn't care that I only used the spinner for one dungeon. When I used the spinner for one dungeon, it was the coolest shit and Stallord fight is amazing. Double Clawshot gets dumped on, but it helped making an incredible boss fight out of that giant dragon.

There's just moments that make you feel epic, and I touched on this a little in the Breath of the Wild topic, but that's what I loved most in Zelda games. I want to fight giant larger than life enemies. I want to use goofy items to do it. I want a big, awesome story. Yeah, it's a Zelda game. The story is never amazing, but it does exactly what it needs to. it gives you a unique world to explore with plenty of quirks. And I know people were disappointed with SURPRISE GANON IS THE BAD BOY, but I didn't mind it as much.

I dunno. I think it's a great Zelda game. I understand some lulls in the game that are kind of annoying, and I think it has a particularly uninspiring start, but it's always been one of my favorite Zelda games.

This is every 3D Zelda battle. None of them are difficult in the slightest. You take less heart damage in TP but effectively nothing has changed because you never died in OoT/MM either, and especially not Wind Waker.

True but at least in OoT if you know what you're doing the fights can be over in 30 seconds. The "epicness" of TP comes from the fact that it all takes 10 minutes instead.

Stallord is one of the best fights in the series though. I also really like Goht and Volvagia.

The one where you have to use a clawshot to hang onto its tail and forcibly bring it to the ground. And then it busts off it's armor and you realize that the armor was CONTAINING it's power.

Then you scale high into the air and fly around to avoid the dragon's fire trying to blast you out of the air. And then you hookshot yourself on top of the dragon and stab it with your sword to bring it back down to the ground.

It's epic because of the situation it puts you in and what Link has to do to kill the thing. You feel like a fucking hero without peer. That's my point when I talk about presentation. It makes you feel like a total badass.

I've played Zelda games for most of my life. They're not hard games. I don't go into Zelda games expecting them to be hard. I don't care if they're hard. They are, ultimately, games targets for children. That won't ever change. I go into them to be impressed by the presentation and enjoy a unique world and feel like the badass hero of time.

I would say your friend is right. I recall the Wii version in particular being very well received and thought highly of for quite some time after its release. I'm a Zelda hater by the way who hadnt ever played that game, so just basing this off of what I remember hearing about it in public opinion and amongst friends.

They're not hard games.

The 2D games are vastly harder than the 3D ones.

And most games try to make me feel like a hero. I don't think TP does an exceptional job at this in any category. I felt like a hero at the end of Metroid Prime 2 just because Samus gives a thumbs up. No other cutscenes or setup required!

I feel like the first half of the game is really well paced, and then post... the sand dungeon? Its pacing just goes from point A to B and thats what hurt the game. Still a good game though, because what non CD-I/DS Zelda game isnt

Also they built Zant up but then he just felt like a complete goober when you fight him and with what happens afterwards.

I'm honestly surprised at the number of people going "wait people actually cared / it was a big deal?" Of course it was. Twilight Princess came out 14 years ago, and back then the vast majority of us were teenagers. Everything is a big deal to teenagers.

This is always exaggerated. It's used in like the majority of the dungeons after you get it!

It's used in 2 other dungeons besides Arbiter's Grounds and only as a glorified switch. The Heart Pieces in Hyrule Field that need it are a more interactive usage than those.

Twilight Princess is a series of hype bubbles bursting.

Mounted combat! Pretty much only used in the Western field and the final boss, IIRC, and the Western Field is just annoying to traverse after a while.

Zelda has a sword! She only uses it in the endgame, iirc. She's still the princess, you still have to rescue her from Ganon.

New characters, new town, new villain, new story! Pretty much done with in the first half to go back to the triumvirate, even bringing back the ghost(?) Of Ganon.

Massive world to explore! Super detailed beginning of the game areas, but like 60% of later areas are just empty space, or a rafting/snowboarding minigame.

Well, what about exploring what there is to explore? Enjoy learning how much rupees are worth every time you open a chest.

Awesome items! That barely function or get used outside their dungeon and one or two puzzles. The Spinner? So much fucking fun to ride on rails. So little fun to go a few feet in an open field. Double Clawshot? Let's Spider-Man through the world! Oh, there's only clearly marked spots to claw now and no longer a wider variety of chainable surfaces like in Ocarina of Time or swing from in Wind Waker. Rod of Dominion? Yeah that fucking sucked even in the dungeon you found it in, and you're already disappointed by the Clawshot and Spinner and know this is just gonna be used on the very few statues you've seen and nothing else.

Three Dark Links! Come on, that's so cool! ...Except they just show up in one or two confusing cutscenes. Maybe you fight them as a Wolf once. I dunno. Trailer bait.

It's a good game, but it's a disappointing game. It shows off some cool things for you to do and play with, but doesn't give you the freedom to play more. It's like being given a cool new toy, but only strict ways to use it like... a yo-yo but you can only go up and down and not do any tricks. Even you try to do tricks or spend hours practicing at it, it only goes up and down (if up at all).

Even the introduction level is like that. Beautiful new town, new characters to interact with, a legend to get started on. You can't wait, you're excited, but before you can continue you must do a series of menial tasks and fetch quests before you can even begin, a minimum of an hour's time no matter if this is the first time doing it or the hundredth. You want to go out and explore the world and fight the moblins and save the princess and be a wolf and chat with Midna, but you need to be taught how to catch cats and wrangle sheep and use a slingshot (that will get used never again).
