Is this for real?

Are children expected to do 8 hours of schooling, 5 days a week in front of a computer screen?
Then even more screen time to do and turn in assignments?

Hasn't there been enough significant research done on the long-term health effects caused by overexposure to computer screens?

Imagine how much worse it is on those who are still growing and developing.

Not permanently damaging children.
Delaying their education for 12 months is safer alternative.

Or slowing their progression and having them required to do 3-5 hours of screen time.
A safe alternative that still keeps them and their minds engaged but also takes into account their physical safety as well.

The local districts are pretty much 30 min instruction 30 min of optional independent study for each period/hour, so while its 8-3 its really only half of that mandatory

Yeah. Youre right. Kids would never spend that amount of time in front of a screen normally, especially if they were stuck at home.

It'll be no different than what is currently happening right now other than they'll be forced to learn shit instead of watching Roblox on YouTube or playing Fortnite.

I'm saying the solution isn't more screen time when we already acknowledge that too much screen time is linked to certain long-term impairments.

Would you still move everyone up a grade? Seniors just skip their final year? Or hold everyone back a year?

Probably more beneficial to hold everyone back a year, that way children receive their full education.
We have gone through worse as a civilization. Kids can get over being held back a year due to a global pandemic.

It's the best possible situation right now. Online studying at home is horribly prone to procrastination, but the alternative is bundling kids and teachers up like a viral petri dish.

This is just an opinion since I don't think data exists on this, but I think freezing school for a year would result in needing more than a year to make up for it.

This isn't summer break where you'll forget some stuff but review it at the start of the next year.

Nah.
Just more realistic expectations from kids in general. They know things aren't normal. They can't go outside and if they go near their grandparents, they could kill them. Yet they're supposed to be able to go to school via online and be educated like we're not living in craziness right now. How ridiculously unfair.

Downsize school and teach only the essentials. This would drop school hours down to maybe 4 hours or so. If you're a extracurricular teacher or something sorry, but you're fucked.

Parents are dying to be away from their spawns and make them the teacher's problem for 8 hours a day, hence the willingness to stick their kids in front if a damaging screen for 8 hours.
