Dark Fate was a good movie, IMO, but yea, even if they want to still tell stories in the same universe, maybe leave the Connor family out of it.

With respect, terminator only started to feel cash-grabby when the fifth one came out and started rehashing things. Not saying 3 and 4 were great, but at least they continued the story in a coherent way.

Hell no, dude. Its effects hold up beautifully, and the excellent action is bolstered by superb acting and a compelling story. What exactly do you think is different about it now?

There are only two Terminator movies.

outside of its effects and visuals, I didn't think that there was anything special about T2, and Edward Furlong's shitty, Bart Simpson wannabe made repeat viewings difficult

He's supposed to be kind of a bratty kid, that's what the movie was ultimately about. He didn't have a father figure because of the events of the first movie, so he was a delinquent.

The only good Terminator after 2, was Salvation.

At least it did something different and broke away from the formula that all the other movies used and still use. I just want a future war epic. We know the future is not going to be changed, so show how brutal and violent it is. Show us the resistance fighting till their last breath, how hopeless it is.

What would have improved the implementation/execution iyo? I always got the impression they wanted to show John as more optimistic than Sarah, while still keeping her stubborn/perseverance

The real villains post Judgement Day have been the studios who keep green-lighting this crap.

People been saying this a couple of times over the years and I wouldn't call it amazing but I was into at the time. But there's no denying they dragged their feet in season 2 with a lot of meandering and then only when they knew they were canceled got really good at the end with a really frustrating finale that made you want to know more what happens next.

Terminator wasn't bad, Predator and Alien got beaten black and blue, lacerated, maimed, raped and the left to die in the woods.

i think the only way it can redeem itself is in TV format that starts right after judgment day.

we follow JC as he gathers allies and establishes the resistance while fighting skynet etc. and they can intertwine it with present day flashbacks or even have time travel episodes etc.

it could even end with sending kyle reese back in time but it probably should end with skynet being defeated and the world being rebuilt.

What really stinks is that the "bad feminism" overshadows the positive feminism of the film. The movie has three well-written female characters in prominent roles. Mackenzie Davis could easily be this generation's go-to action lead the way that Arnold Schwarzenegger was twenty-something years ago. I have that much faith in her.

But the movie decided to rewrite the history books so that Louisa May Alcott could be president during the American Civil War instead of Abraham Lincoln. That's... that's the same problem with Ghostbusters '16. Why do we have to take away the achievements of males? Why can't we have a natural succession in which the torch is passed on to a female protagonist instead?

What;s your thoughts on DF versus Salvation? I was really pumped for the latter after seeing the trailer, as it hinted at a divergent timeline (similar to what happened in DF) with Connor's "this is not the enemy my mother warned me about" line. The actual movie plot was a bit of a letdown as it retread familiar ground, especially as the end didn't have Marcus taking Connor's place.

The concept of Dark Date rewriting history doesn't bother me. They could do a lot with that concept.

But all they did was use the exact same concept with a different name for Skynet and a woman replacing the role of John Connor. How boring. The concept of what an AI uprising in 2019 could look like is very different than what it looked like in the 80s. I don't even think Skynet would need a nuclear holocaust to control us. What a waste.

Luckily none of them matter outside the first 2. Resistance has a decent cult following and fits in with T1 and T2 without trying to change the story.

*Spoiler* The original ending had Connor replaced by cyborg to keep the resistance going - the secondary protagonist of the movie had a human heart and brain inside a metal skeleton with flesh on top. Though created before Skynet, he was activated to unknowingly bait Connor but sided with Reese to atone for past mistakes. I believe the original plan had him take Connor's appearance when after Connor died in Skynet, giving a slightly ambiguous ending as to which path he would take.
