A little background: as some of you are aware, when I moved into my current home, a lot of the appliances that generally come with a home were not present. No fridge, no stove/oven, no washer, no dryer, not even a water heater. They were all stolen by the previous tenants when they got evicted for not paying rent for three years. I got a water heater a few months into living here and a fridge and stove about a year later. Well, I finally got a washer and dryer, too.

My grandmother moved out of her house to live in an apartment for the rest of her days so she didn't need a washer and dryer anymore. With the help of my boyfriend, my sister's boyfriend, and my boyfriend's father, we moved them over and hooked them up with very little issues. They all agreed it went very smoothly, thanks in part to my careful planning and also thanks to my bf's father's experience in hooking up washers and dryers. No more will I have to travel to laundromats for laundry, no more will I have to choose between a whole day of being stuck somewhere for laundry or doing something else with my time off. Now I can just wash whatever I want, whenever I want. I know it doesn't seem like a big deal to some folk, but it means so much to me. My quality of life just went up a few notches!

tl;dr The previous tenants stole the washer and dryer out of the house I'm living in, but now I got hand-me-down equipment from my grandmother because she moved out of her house and didn't need them anymore and I'm super duper jazzed.

You've answered your own question lmao

Good for you. I only recently moved into a place with in-house laundry and it's a life changer.

Oh yeah, you bet. They don't get as soft as dryer dried clothes, takes longer to dry, and can smell musty if your basement is dank. That's really best done on an outdoor clothesline, but who has time for that anymore? I hear ya, mate.

Nice.

When I moved out, I lived about two months without a washer and dryer before buying my own. Never looked back and miss going to the laundromats like I miss chicken pox.

Do you have a proper air-conditioning system or is that also on hold?

We have central air, yes. Though, I don't think it's quite powerful enough since it doesn't cool the top floor. Instead, we have a standing oscillating fan to keep us cool on hot summer nights.

My mom tried her best, but she was swindled by these crooks. I'm not happy about it either, but what's done is done and there's not much we can do about it at this stage.

The whole lot that I lived on was owned by the same company and there was a shared laundry room. But there were only 2 washers and 2 dryers shared by about 10 households, and one of the dryers was perpetually broken. Also most of us had to walk outside across the lot to get to the laundry room, so your clothes had the risk of getting wet if you, God forbid, did laundry when the weather wasn't perfect.

Now THAT'S shitty. I would have been constantly sabotaging the machines so the owners are forced to get new ones or more of them. Or tried slugs to cut into their funds a little bit. Sorry you had to deal with that, man.

I know, right? If I weren't working it wouldn't be such a hassle, but it's tough to sacrifice a whole day off for one single chore. Plus all that hauling heavy laundry and supplies and laundromats aren't climate controlled so it can be either really hot or really cold. It's also a little hard to watch yourself drain a twenty in quarters in a sitting. Like, it all adds up, you know?

*I* like to hangout naked, not him so much. Sometimes I'm too lazy to get dressed, sometimes I'm just overheating. He, on the other hand, is usually only naked in the shower or when I bother him endlessly to strip so I can oggle him.

Anyway, I still gotta have clothes for work, man! I'm allowed to wear basically whatever I want to work so I tend to go through clothes faster than my previous jobs that had a set uniform. Plus, there's also sheets and blankets and other non-wearable items I gotta wash, ya know?

Yeah, some people can be assholes. My ex-roommates landlady claimed that he caused damage to her tub when he tried to move out, meanwhile he had pictures and video evidence that it was damaged before he moved in, yet for some reason the judge agreed with her. My own landlords(a company) chose to stick a stacker washer/dryer into a small closet which caused the dryer hose to get punctured, meanwhile there was a gigantic open space with no heater on it that they could have put 2 single units and left that space empty for extra stuff.

I know, right? My landlord of my last apartment tried to stick me with nearly $2k of a bill for painting the walls, replacing the carpets, cleaning appliance fees, and other stuff that was total bullshit. I don't know how these types of people live with themselves. I mean, how greedy and slimy can you get?

I kind of agree. I mean, what are you gonna do with it? Most homes come with them already installed, unless you know you're moving somewhere that doesn't have one or has an old one that needs replacing ahead of time. And even then, this was a rental so they didn't own the water heater so it's still theft. I guess if you're a crook, anything is worth stealing.

Another story I remembered, when I was living with my ex-roommate the exhaust fan broke over the stove. They tried to charge us something ridiculous to get it fixed. Dad went to the hardware store, bought a new one for like 20-30 bucks and fixed it himself. Also, they stuck a privacy film over the bathroom window, which started to smell really bad, and when we complained about it they told us to take it off ourselves. Yeah, they were assholes.

Boy am I glad I own my own place now. If something breaks, I can fix it in less than a day.... long as I have the money.
