Most people who have nostalgia for the 50s through the 90s were mostly children or teenagers at the time and didn't have to deal with all the shit in the real world.

Yeah there were some pretty dank music and movies in the 80s and 90s, generation X was kinda spoiled in that regard

I mean more so in terms of sociopolitical factors of course

I can say as a teen by the mid 90s, things seemed pretty sweet overall. This is pre dotcom bust and 9/11. US was undisputed super power and society felt more positive. The counter culture was just be a slacker and skateboarding is not a crime. The general vibe was if you finish college, things should work out for you. And oh hey, the internet was quirky and seemed like thr openess of it all would be only great for everyone with no downside.

This is obviously coming from my white and comfortable background though. There were problems then too, big ones. But the culture seemed to have more of a feeling of yeah things will be fine and workout just bcause.

It's just that, especially in the 80's, it was pure ignorance is bliss scenario. There were no phones, no internet, news was televised and in newspapers. A lot of teenagers weren't on social media constantly, they were outside playing sports and whatnot. A lot of people weren't even aware of all the ongoing issues, because they didn't have access to it consistently, or a digital social media platform to hear about it and talk about it on.

Nah. Living in the 80s and 90s and having unconventional tastes in films and music must have sucked for people outside of major cities. Now I can live in some little town in rural England and discover so much just from a little device in my hand or the pc at my desk. People back then were largely culturally deprived.

I kind of agree, while agreeing with Guide also. People have a platform to expose awful people, but as a result of that platform, there's a lot of awful people being awful also.

Very few people act and speak in person how they act on the internet.

I'll never understand how people can say the music was better back then.

1. Now you've got easier access to all the music being made then. Things you likely never had the chance to be exposed to at the time.
2. It shows they clearly have made zero effort to explore modern music. If you can't find multiple bands/artists making music today that you like that's not modern music sucking, it's you being stubborn.
3. They're in denial about the utter cheesy cringey garbage that was the majority of 80s and 90s mainstream music and are just remembering the classics.

Social media, internet, technology have made information to accessible. Back then we knew the big news in the world and the local shit. The only views and opinions you heard were from family, friends, neighbors, people nearby.
Now we have access to every thing that happens everywhere and everyone can make their damn opinions heard. It's make you realize that alot of people suck lol
