(And My Mother the Car actually predates the Gundam franchise.)

Also, fun fact, James L. Brooks was a writer on that abominable sitcom before The Simpsons.

Ah, the 60's and their wacky ideas.

I seriously think a western live action adaptation of Gundam could work if actually done right, but that will never happen. Maybe have to wait a while for good special effects to be easier/cheaper too as well.

Although if you want a Gundam western (as opposed to a Western Gundam), I recommend strongly and without irony or edgelording Saber Rider. Finding the real Sei Jshi Bismarck would be awesome, but I've never seen it. Saber Rider was my f'ing jam and accounted for at least 70% of the video rentals I made as a kid.
