No. He was already in custody and should have let the justice system handle it from there. Jody's parents were eventually able to rescue him and the karate instructor was taken into custody. Later, as the instructor was being taken away, Gary hid himself near a phone booth and as the instructor and his escort walked past, Gary shot the instructor point-blank in the head, killing him (there's clear video of this killing, but I can't link it here for obvious reasons). He escaped prison time in lieu of fines and community service, due to the nature of the crime and the judge feeling that he was not a threat to his community. Obviously, there are two camps to this story: One is completely understandable of his actions as a father, and are glad that he put down a child rapist who more than likely also assaulted other children before Jody. The other feels that he went too far with killing a man who was already in custody and would have been sent to prison. His son Jody is also in this camp. And if he were really thinking clearly he would realize its more important to be there for his son by not being in jail for killing someone in a revenge that wont undo what happened. Emotions can be a blessing and a curse so I dont envy him. --- I don't care about factual proof, who needs it? - Super_Charger92 a hyperbole is an extreme exaggeration. You want to feel sympathy, but you also don't want to create a place where people feel OK committing vigilante murder.
