One ear or the other will stop working within a few months. Is this because I'm buying affordable headphones or will this happen even if I dish out $100+

Same but like 15 dollars. I just listen to podcasts to and from work so anything pricier than that doesn't seem necessary.

Any recommendations? I like headphones for the surround sound and noise cancelling. Dislike earbuds because I have trouble keeping in my ear. Dislike cords because I forget about them and accidentally yank them.

I've had pair of Audio Technica M50xs for almost 5 years now and they're still going strong.

I bought a $7 pen because I always lose pens, and I got sick of not caring.

I always went with cheap headphones as a teen with no money (logitech was fancy to me) and would probably go through like two or three pairs a year. In 2017 when money wasn't a problem I got a pair of Sennheisers and they still work like new.

I always bought gummi brand headphones since they were the only brand that actually stayed on. But they still sucked for running.

When I got my new job I rewarded myself with powerbeat pro beats headphones. $270 but they are wireless, bluetooth, come with a mic, have decent bass, and come with earclips so they are guaranteed to stay in my ear. They have been a great investment so far for both listening to music while I run and making/answering phone calls.

Yeah. I hate it when I buy apples that they just become a core after I eat them.

Its so weird. It happens every time too. So I just buy cheaper apples but it still happens!

If you use shit then it will wear out. Thats how life works. You get what your pay for.

I usually spend less than that and mine last much longer. Usually it's the wire that gets fucked up but I buy the ones where the wire disconnects so I can just replace it instead of the entire thing.

I've been using those for 2 years and they've been fine. I only use them when I go running or cycling so they have a lot of sweat use in them and still work great, no problems ever with them yet. They're also cheapo 20 dollar ones. NEVER HAD A CONNECTION PROBLEM WITH THEM.

Only complaint is, that they have maybe like a 10-20 hour battery life? I think? I've had them die on me once and tbh I don't know, it may have been several days I hadn't recharged them. I usually recharge them after every run or bike trip I make.

No, actually. If you buy a quality pair should not break through normal use.

I have a pair of Grado SR-80E headphones and theyve been going strong for 2 years without fail. I had a pair before them that lasted a year before I stepped on them, but thats my fault and nothing to do with the headphones.

This is my policy for in ear headphones.

I had a really awesome set of Bose in ear headphones and a guy in my row on an airplane ripped the cord in half when he hooked it trying to go the restroom.

Over ear big ass headphones are a different story because they are generally sturdier and more modular. The cords detach cleanly from the headphones, the ear pieces are replaceable, and its just harder for you personally to lose because they are huge.
