There's a term in economics which I forget what it's called. But it's where certain platforms like social media and store fronts trend towards one single front or marketplace due to the convenience that entails.

EGS, the main storefront that has painted the issue as Valve being a monopoly, also went about advocating for their store really bizarrely, since they essentially kept talking about higher profits for publishers with no mention of passing those savings onto the consumer. Why should Joe PC Gamer care about Valve's "monopoly" when the price of the new AAA game is exactly $60 at every single retailer? Valve shills aren't just brainwashed monkeys, they perceive no incentive to have Valve not be the dominant gaming platform.

I forget what its called to but yeah Epic calls Steam a monopoly but its not a monopoly to have the most convenient and overall best service available.

Seems pretty self-centered to me for someone not to care about the good things another company does because it doesn't inherently benefit them. EGS has shown a light on one of many flaws Steam has. One they would likely never have fixed without outside pressure of a rival company.

The narrative that Valve is a monopoly is a false one however, to boot. First of all, all developers in good standings get access to unlimited keys. These keys can be resold anywhere. Yes they must be redeemed on Steam however game sales made this way don't give any royalties to Valve. Valve 30% cut happens only to games sold through their marketplace.

But you won't see Epic going out of their way to let people know that.

What flaws? Steam offers the better service to EGS, for consumers.

Not to mention all the tools and services that Steam provides, for no extra cost, to developers. That 30% is partially paying for these tools and services.

EGS pretty much just wants to do everything they can to paint Valve as the bad guy while they throw endless gobs of money at the issue rather than, y'know, actually trying to build a storefront with features comparable to Steam. Like just the fact that consumer reviews are opt in by developers alone makes EGS less consumer friendly than Steam, not counting the myriad other issues with their storefront

You're forgetting or ignoring that the company isn't doing good things to help people, only to help other corporations. If the good things the other company does is only to increase the profits of themselves and other corporations, it's not selfish for a consumer to use the better product that costs the same amount of money for them. It's not like Epic is donating to charity or something. If someone wants to actually give the publishers and an actual charity more money, they can buy the game off of Humble Bundle.

EGS soul reason for existing is to make more money. There is nothing altruistic about them. And gamers not liking their business practices or product is not selfish.
