What is your preferred identification for these people?

I been getting into ancient cultures. I have grown tired of industrial society and its toxicity.

"Upon suffering beyond suffering, the Red Nation shall rise again and it shall be a blessing for a sick world. A world filled with broken promises, selfishness and separations. A world longing for light again. I see a time of Seven Generations when all the colors of mankind will gather under the Sacred Tree of Life and the whole Earth will become one circle again. In that day, there will be those among the Lakota who will carry knowledge and understanding of unity among all living things and the young white ones will come to those of my people and ask for this wisdom. I salute the light within your eyes where the whole Universe dwells. For when you are at that center within you and I am that place within me, we shall be one."

Guess he had no real grasp on the size of the Earth and parts of Asia.

Figured he'd realize he hit some land sooner than usual.

It seems this is the brainwash we're meant to believe because of the education system. I really doubt the old generations of America's discovery were really that dumb and to insist on that name of "indian". It would've taken a few more months before that information was led back to Europe on a boat.

As a cover up for the war on India or... perhaps Asia in general because Christianity wanted to stomp out other religions. There was no way they were going to cross the middle East and the mountain ranges that divide the East &West.

America eventually became an area for the protestants and others who were against the Roman Catholic church. There was a bunch of highly intelligent Freemasonry personal who were the original founders of America. The eagle you see today on the "logos" used to be a phoenix.

stuff like this that romanticizes the native american way of life is so full of shit.

go read some stuff about what these tribes did to other tribes, and you'll see they're no better or worse than other peoples of the world.

that's also the main reason the various tribes had such a hard time uniting against the white men. they literally raped, murdered, enslaved, pillaged one another for thousands of years before columbus.

whether they're better or worse or not is irrelevant -- the european settlers committed genocide against them, and continue to do so to this day

Yeah, pretty much.

Its a diverse group. I know Natives (my choice of words) who always call themselves Indian, but a couple of others who dont seem to care as long as you address them with respect.

You're the kind of person who uses the term "pandering" a lot, yet will never have a consistent definition for it.

You are literally defending a term that essentially was made to be "not savages" with the implication being that the dominant group used to think that these guys were dumber than dirt and had no political systems worth mentioning ing now they are "first nations". No geographical reference point or anything. First towns maybe? No doesnt sound good first cities? I'm not sure you can call that a city..... first nations... there you go sounds right.

It's stupid as fuck.

Native American at least is translatable on it's own in a way a person in the world would understand without you explaining the concept of white guilt.

"First Nation" as a term became officially used beginning in 1980s to replace the term "Indian band" in referring to groups of Indians with common government and language.[14][15] The term had come into common usage in the 1970s to avoid using the word "Indian", which some Canadians considered offensive.

Shut the fuck up.

Native American has a nasty association with a certain anti-immigrant movement from the turn of the 19th century. Some people don't like the term for that reason (and maybe other reasons). I usually say "American Indian" because people I have known have said they prefer it to Native American.

This is the take I agree with the most.

All of the terms are loaded.

1st Nation people usually only refer to indigenous people of North America that currently reside in what is now Canada.

Native American or American Indian are both terms that the US census used to keep track of indigenous people during and after the Civil War in the US and western-expanded United States.

Redskin is a racial slur that fell out of vogue near the beginning of the 20th century.

Indigenous American also has it's stigma because it does not account for the indigenous people of Canada or Mexico. In fact, the indigenous people of Mexico are often dismissed as simply being "Mexican". Same could be said about the indigenous people of Central and South America.

Guide posted... Interesting. How do you think the name stuck, then?

I am Blackfoot indian myself and I don't mind calling myself "indian". Just how black people prefer to be called "black" as opposed to African-American. Some indians say that they prefer to be called by their tribe's name but very few indians are actually full-blooded, which is a point of contention in native communities and politics.

Also, I think TC just made this topic to slip in a racial slur. I don't think they actually care or have any compassion for the native population of the US, Canada or Mexico.

Just my take though. Other indians may feel different about the whole thing, depending on their tribe or locale.
