Where even the crappiest of apartments and houses cost like over $1000 or more to rent a month?

I want to try and move there relatively soon, but if it still costs out the ass to live there then it's probably out of my range sadly.

Yeah. Moving out so they can complain about high cost of living so they can go elsewhere and just vote on the same exact policies that made the cost of living high

A lot of social programs and borrowing money is what ups the cost of living. Not because of anything said city actually does.

I have a friend that has a small workshop in the middle of skid row. People have been recently murdered on his front door step, his building has been set on fire, and there are permanent rows of homeless people encampments surrounding the place. He pays $2000+ a month for the place. And that is considered pretty low.

What the fuck? That's fucked up on so many levels and they still expect him to pay that fuckin' much for it? What the fuck is wrong with the people who make the prices for living there man?

Like I said, that's on the low end for the area. He just invested in a full suite of security cameras to completely surround his section of the building after a homeless guy was stabbed in front of his door by another homeless person. The cops told him that there isn't anything they can do about homeless people fighting, shitting, doing drugs, setting fires, dumpster diving and so on. If he wasn't dealing with any of this, the rent would be even more absurd.

My brother pays $2100 for a 2-bedroom apartment in Highland Park, which is considered a solid deal for the area. In contrast, my mortgage for a 2-bedroom condo in Henderson, NV is $800, and that's including the hefty monthly HOA.

LA is not America, nor is LAs housing cost close to the norm. And if you seriously want to live in a luxury city like LA it's going to cost you a arm and a leg.

It's still messed up they expect him to pay that much for being in a shithole area, where he could potentially be hurt or killed being there.

Nice.
I'm off of 215 and Paseao Verde.
I have a few roommates, and we split a 6 bedroom house.
We all pay 1/4 rent and utilities. It's cheap.

immigrated to nyc as child and grew up there until left for college at 16. we were a poor family of four and lived in various apartments in queens.

in san fran for med school and lived off student loans - rented a room in beautiful presidio heights for only $450 a month, but had to share flat with literal lunatic for that low price.

in LA for medical residency , cute and safe one bedroom in west hollywood for 1250 per month.

now retired early

Damn nice. How did you retire early?

Luxury city is not what I would use to describe most of Los Angeles lol.

But yes TC, it's still expensive here. Good luck finding any apartment for under $1000 a month. I tell people I pay $1,500 for a 2 bedroom apartment and the reaction is always "wow that's such a good deal". If you can deal with having a 1.5 to 2 hour commute, you can find cheaper places to live in the valley.

It is probably a business lease if it is his workshop, those could be 10 or 20 year leases, maybe the homeless people werent there when he originally got the lease. It would then be the citys fault for allowing that to happen next to his business

I guess demand vs supply would have been more appropriate. Although personally I dont really see the appeal. I wouldn't want to live around so many people, Weather is nice but the same climates gets old after a while and paying so much of my income for shoddy apartment is depressing as hell.
