Shouldn't be a slur, but we're living in some very stupid times so *of course* people are going to try and turn it into one.

aww poor bby. tell us of your struggles.

Well, I'm homeless for starters, and I've dealt with a lifetime of major depression where at least one catalyst is body image issues because I'm a cis guy who hates his masculine features.

I wish I could pull off being disarmingly androgynous myself, but that's literally impossible with the genetics I got stuck with.

I dont think it is by default. I and a lot of other gay men in the anime community were using it basically interchangeably for cross dressing anime twinks for a very long time with no negative connotation. Yes, it was a joking term, but it was never like... directed at someone accusingly or pejoratively

I have no idea when the bridge got crossed into people thinking its something mean you call transpeople because Ive never actually seen anyone do that. Im not saying its never happened, surely some dummy or another has, but I dont think that usage is anywhere near as common

Its pretty derogatory to trans women and I cant really see any justification in using it in this context. Probably should just not do that, no?
Yes. Dont use it in that context. Only the non slang context in which it refers to literal mousetraps or something.

Look at it this way; I know a lot of trans people who all hate it. As a gay man Im sure youve been called a lot of shitty bullshit so you understand the concept of not calling someone something they hate right?

Why is it so hard for people to treat others with basic levels of respect?

See, thats the thing, no one here is condoning the use of the word towards actual people.

What we do have is anyone who uses the word to describe a character is a transphobe or transphobic apologist and its no wonder theres pushback.

Its also pretty obvious that TC is baiting at this point.

yeah of course I do, and I also understand that calling them that is shitty. All I was saying is I much more regularly see it getting applied just to gay dudes or simply cross dressing dudes and not trans people. So I dont get why people tend to barge into conversations and present it as a blanket slur or something when more oft n than not the accused wasnt talking of that
