Microsoft wants everything to be a service, which is why they put games on GamePass day one.

But I suspect they're rapidly going to shift to incomplete games with "development roadmaps"

By no means do I take issue with game delays, nor do I play xbox so I don't care, but it doesn't look good when you have to delay your flagship franchise till after the launch of a new console when it was meant to be a sort of "last hurrah" or introduction to that console.

On no uncertain terms, I strongly oppose people who boast about their income. With that said, $400 to $500 in 2020 is not exactly bank-breaking for most people with a decent income.

Given the extent of backwards compatibility this gen, I can see people getting the new boxes just for the improved performance on games they already have (shorter load times being a big one).

I would imagine the backlash at the demo played a huge role in this move.

I doubt the graphics are the real problem behind-the-scenes.

My guess is that the game took a design direction that isn't panning out. This sorta-open-world mission based thing is pretty risky as it is, but knowing Microsoft they probably wanted to shoehorn in as much "games as a service" shenanigans as they could, and it's just not gelling.

To me, this is the one sole saving grace of this generation. The fact that both consoles were deliberately designed to improve last-gen games as well.

Yeah it's pretty much just the new Xbox One X. People who already had Ones still went out and bought the One X.

The One X played all the games the One did, but it made them look and play better. All new games were playable on One X and One.

The Series X will also play all the games the One does, and will make them look and play better, and load faster. All new games will be playable on Series X and One (at least for the first ~year)

Sucks for Xbox Series X but good for Halo. I'll be busy with Cyberpunk and Watch Dogs anyway. I'm planning on trading in both the Xbox One X and PS4 and seeing how far that credit takes me. Either Xbox first and PS5 later or both at launch. I'm well aware I'll just be playing better versions of current gen games for a while. Which is fine with me as I just got a new fancy 4k TV.

I'd say it's more due to the response to the showing. They already delayed Ray Tracing until after launch before. They won't want this game to have a bad first impression.

Strong launch line-ups for consoles are pretty rare. Most of the time you're playing crossgen games for the first year and launch games are quickly forgotten.

But the big difference here is that Microsoft have an uphill battle to try and sway people off Playstation. If Playstation delayed Spider-man to next year it really wouldn't matter all that much. For Xbox Halo Infinite matters a lot more. They need the momentum. Nintendo also needed that for the Switch and they managed it. They got BOTW for launch and got new games out regularly for the first year. Playstation has the luxury of being able to just continue doing more of the same with one or two big games for the first year and fill up the rest with third parties and AA games. Microsoft have more to prove.

Xbox just doesn't seem to be there. Now to be fair they have a different priority than usual here. Game Pass subscribers. In any other scenario they probably could have moved games like Wasteland 3, Tell Me Why, Grounded and Flight Simulator to be XSX only. But they don't want to lose Game Pass subscribers. So they need to continue to spread that out over time and keep things quiet for a while to come back next gen.

But even with that 2021 just seems pretty barren outside of the now delayed Halo Infinite. Grounded will probably become a full game then I guess but that's a small game made by a dozen people. The rest seem to be 2022 or later. I'm surprised they haven't tied up a third party for themselves like they did with Dead Rising and Titanfall. That really would have helped a lot here. For now they're basically preaching to the choir and not giving anyone a reason to change their mind. It's great stuff if you're already in the Xbox or PC ecosystem. But there's not enough to attract anyone new and this has been a problem for Xbox for years now. If Halo Infinite still doesn't manage it that will continue to be the case for more years to come.
