Im not hurt....nobody else was hurt....nobodies elses car got wreck....i just feel so embarrassed and feel like the biggest idiot

so i just cruising along at like 50 km and I tap my brake pedal the slightest going around the smallest bend in the road in my 1986 Pontiac Fiero....well apparently it didnt like that and before I knew it the back of the car was fighting to go left and right and i fought it for like what felt like 4 - 5 instances of a little back and forth and i tried to correct it but instead i just did like a 270 degree spin and the drivers side just slid into a curb totaling both brand new left side tires, breaking my axels and smashing my rims

all winter, i dreamed about having a nice summer ride so when i picked this up in February and covid slowed me down on getting it ready in time for the summer, i was absolutely thrilled to even have it ready by August here.....I feel like such a dipshit failure dumbass, i didnt even drive 300km in that thing..i didnt get to take any girls out on dates in it, i barely even got a taste of it before something as stupid as like a small bend in the road totally wrecked me. I have to cede that is was all my fault. I didn't yet have the driving skills to not only handle a mid engine vehicle but also a rear wheel drive vehicle for my first time.

The worst part about this is, i don't even know what to do with myself now. I don't feel like playing video games, watching anything, or jerking off. I'm not tired so I can't take a nap and sleep this off and I got nobody to hang out with.....i just feel like, ugh man what the fuck am I going to do now

The fiero and MR2 are notorious for doing that. Sad to hear about it though.

Hopefully you can get it fixed up easily and itll be ready for next summer.

I dont know, i've been trying not to think about it...im still pretty upset, i dont want to give myself false hope because i wont know what the situation is until monday. Both tires on the driver side were essentially smashed of/bent in pretty good and im willing to bet i fucked up stuff underneath it as well

i still kind of dont understand still what even happened to me.

As a mid-engine car, it will have lift-off oversteer if it wasn't designed thoroughly enough to deal with it, which was the case. Gave the car it's charm of an imperfect, but look-the-part model.

Sorry for your loss. Glad you're ok.

Frame damage is what may really screw you. Axles and wheels is a matter of money.

Yeah, as mentioned above I was about to say it sounded like lift off oversteer. It sucks, but at least you and no one else got hurt, as it can be absolutely fatal in many cases. It's a problem that's plagued Porsche (and others) for decades, which is impressive at how much they've tamed it over time.

Basically it wants to go ass first like you're towing some sort of out of control trailer, minus the trailer.

I've got a '85 Fiero that's in decent shape apart from the front splitter and some "hot film sensor" I can't even find, but you gotta come to Missouri to get it.
Also it hasn't been run for about 25 years.

The frame inside a Fiero is pretty stout, and easy to fix if you fuck it up anyway. The body panels are made of weak fiberglass and meant to disintegrate.

If anything, this is an excuse to do the batmobile conversion.

man, thanks for that..your post made me smile for the first time since i've got home

i also...idk, ive just been sitting alone in my room since 4:30pm and its almost midnight....i've gone through a range of emotions here

to start.....my best friend and my family and every post here keeps telling me that i should be happy that im ok, and if i was physically messed up from this i certainly would be singing a different tune but im about to sound like a selfish dick here................yeah, im okay but so what..even typing that out i realize how stupid that sounds but im just coming to terms with the fact that 4 months of my hard work has been been practically erased in what took like 5 seconds

im not a rich guy....im 28 and work in a factory and drive a boring chevy cavalier..i saved for like over a year for this thing and now its probably gone forever and I never even got to take a nice picture of myself in it..even if I can get it fixed, the enthusiasm I have is just completely gone at the moment......will it come back again? i dont know, i was already in over my head with this type of car to begin with, i think this just sealed the deal that i have no business driving anything other then a lame ass basic commuter and that i'll never get to have a aurora of cool

all of my hobbies lately have revolved around cars.....i dont even know what to do with myself..tried to game a little but just couldn't get into it....have no idea what im going to do all day tomorrow, then i have to go back to work on monday...........just hating myself right now............its gonna take a lot to build my mania back up

I remembered I have two Fieros, a 85 and a 88, that have been rotting in my dad's barn for a couple or three decades.

I got tired of making the ECM happy in the 85, and the 88 had a deer go through it.

Just give it time man. You're in shock and yes the situation does suck so you're gonna be in deep thoughts for a while but just give it time and try to explore your options to see if it's salvageable.

as long as i didnt crack the sub frame, which is a job he doesnt want to take on, i'll be good....new tires, rims, control arms, brakes and axels and i'll be good to go

When I was 17 I briefly had a 92 MR2 with the NA 2.2L, manual. Got it cheap at a live auction, needed the head gasket, clutch and transmission gears, suspension, tires done. I hadn't yet done the suspension or tires, I was a broke high school student and they still worked-ish.

Anyway, I had it actually up and running for a little over a month it seems, longest trip was like 40 miles round trip. I am driving to a friends on an old back country road that was mostly straight with lazy bends, wide shoulders but some steep falls here and there. Speed limit would be 50, I was probably doing 60. Was changing a CD and when I looked up wasn't in my lane, I let off and steer back into my lane a bit too quickly. Back end goes out. I counter over and over correct. 2 and a half spins later I am down the embankment backwards but it was all deep gravel with the occasional rock, only damage was a cracked oil pan and some scuffing that buff out.

That terrified me. I walk / jog to my friend's a couple miles further, his dad tows me out and back to my place. I replace the oil pan, do the suspension, some tires, sell it for a few grand profit, only driving it to the Les Schwab and back.

That was 20 years ago. I'm still into cars. I've owned around 25 cars, that is still my biggest regret on selling. I wish I had gotten to better experience that car.

You gotta Triple R it bro.

Research the car and how people correct it.

Rebuild the car using modern parts and doing upgrades where appropriate. I.e. thicker front sway bar or something.

Respect the car. The car will always have this in it.
