This. The DLC is a huge plus and adds a lot more enjoyment to the game, but its also on sale all the time for huge discounts. I know a few years ago (before Civ 6 released) I got Civ 5 complete for like 10 bucks.

Vanilla Civ 6 isn't too bad either, but once you get the DLC you'll hate trying to play without it.

I bought it because I buy everything Civ. I haven't bothered with the extra modes, the new Civs are cool, though. Playing a game as Ethiopia now.

New frontier won't show up but I have Ethiopia which says secret societys and such

I bought new frontier after everything else and it didn't download though

Civ games are always better with the full DLC and usually not better than the previous game without any.

If you've never played Civ before I would suggest getting 5 with everything for super cheap. If I am remembering correctly 5 is more newbie friendly. I haven't actually played a civ game since 4, so I might be completely wrong on that.

CIV 5 is a bit more newbie friendly, since everything is just a bit more streamlined (there's no districts, workers can work forever, religion doesn't do as much, there's only a tech tree to focus on, etc...) but I don't think the differences are too much that its a better get than 6 (aside from the cost), but I would agree to get 5 over 6 if you're still a new player.

I've also heard that 4 is arguably the best in the series, and you can get the compete edition for dirt cheap when its on sale (like, 4-5 bucks for the complete edition). I've never tried 4 so I don't know if its actually the best or not.

4 was great, but it does play differently since it's from the time when city management was even more simple imo and you could stack units and there were no tiles.

New frontier is just a season pass that when it's complete should be similar to another expansion. So each month you'll get another dlc added.
