I used to do that, but it literally never yielded results and took way too much time when applying for lots of jobs.

I hired a lot at a couple of previous jobs, and I legitimately ignored all cover letters. They are unnecessary in this era imo. I want to know skills, education, availability and work history. Everything else is a skim over.

As someone who put that effort in, I agree it was a waste.

As someone doing the hiring, I want to see it. I know how shitty it was knowing how applications and resumes are just a quick glance and misrepresentation. I know a cover letter can be full of shit too, but I'm looking at the quality it was written and seeing how specifically crafted it is. I would consider hiring that person sooner.

I can get wanting a letter if the person is working some administrative position or sales or something, but I don't feel like writing that shit if I'm applying for a custodial job.
