Donald Trump has claimed that some states' election results may not be known for "years" as he continued to rage over Nevada's plan to send absentee ballots to all active voters amid the Covid crisis.

The president continued to fume on Wednesday morning, tweeting that Nevada has "zero infrastructure for mail-in voting, it will be a corrupt disaster if not ended by the courts".

He added that it "will take months, or years, to figure out" in Nevada, while praising Florida which he said has "built a great infrastructure" for mail-in votes.

He doubled-down on the Nevada claim around 30 minutes later during a telephone interview with Fox News.

The Trump campaign filed a lawsuit on Tuesday against Nevada's major expansion of mail-in voting.

"The RNC has a vital interest in protecting the ability of Republican voters to cast, and Republican candidates to receive, effective votes in Nevada elections and elsewhere," the lawsuit said.

The Trump campaign is asking a federal judge to issue a temporary restraining order and a preliminary injunction blocking the bill.

The Democratic-controlled Nevada state legislature passed the major election bill along party lines over the weekend.

Governor Steve Sisolak, a Democrat, said in a tweet on Monday: "I signed AB 4, which ensures protections for Nevadans to vote safely at the November election during the pandemic. During this global pandemic, I made a commitment that we'd do all we can to allow Nevadans to safely cast a ballot in the upcoming November election."

1) Why is the Trump campaign, and not a more generic Republican body, like the RNC, suing Nevada?

2) At this point it is safe to assume he's going to have to be dragged out of the White House in January

It may be that the RNC would not have standing to sue, or otherwise doesn't want to do anything at this juncture. A or B, really.

If the RNC doesn't have standing I don't see why the Trump campaign would specifically have standing.

If anything I think the only parties that would have standing would be USPS and the citizens of Nevada? Like the Constitution is pretty clear that States are in charge of their own elections.

If a new President hasn't been chosen by January then Pelosi gets to appoint an interim until a President is chosen. So this wouldnt help him

Nevermind Independent just sucks

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/trump-campaign-republican-national-committee-sue-nevada-mail-in-voting-expansion/

The lawsuit filed by the Trump campaign, the Republican National Committee and the Nevada Republican Party against Secretary of State Barbara Cegavske, a Republican, on Tuesday takes aim at Assembly Bill 4, under which all active registered voters in Nevada will be sent mail ballots for the November 3 election. The Trump campaign claims the measure "makes voter fraud and other ineligible voting inevitable."

I think the point he's making is that it would be bad we wouldn't know who truly got elected.

Agency relations, I would argue. The campaign represents Trump directly, while the RNC is a bit more tangential on that front. I don't know if that would be the case, but it's a potential reason if the RNC actually desired to file suit.

Edit: ah, disregard then. Saw your follow up post.

States are in charge, but states are bound in their official acts by principles of equity. These sorts of actions aren't limited to citizens of the state, and Trump ostensibly has an interest in a fair election as represented by the campaign if we run with agency principles.

Foundation of standing is that a plaintiff needs to allege with particularity:

1. An injury or imminent injury to the plaintiff
2. Causal relationship between act and injury
3. The injury must be able to be redressed.

The first prong is the only issue here, and it relies on imminency.

It's really simple, do you think trump is brave enough to be dragged out and face criminal charges for trespassing or do you think trump is a coward who is going to flee the county to avoid that growing and pending lawsuit that is waiting for him to no longer have presidential immunity

No, it's been his stance since this year. He had no problems with it in 2016 and 2018, but now that it looks like he's gonna lose, it's suddenly terrible.

So... hes suing NV for the way they want to vote? I'm so confused here, HE cuts funding to USPS during the pandemic, and then has an issue with the way it's working for the votes. If he actually cared, wouldnt he give them the money they need to make sure it works right?
