Rayman: Legends. I'm talking about a 700 Teensie speedrun, which is a very long, mentally challenging way to play. My previous best (I think) was 8 hours and 10 minutes. I've been hovering around this time for quite a while, and have been wondering if I can improve further. Mostly, I wanted to get under 8 hours. Well, I did the speedrun, and although I made a few stupid mistakes, it seemed pretty fast, and in the end...it was 7 hours and 47 minutes. I was VERY happy. As I pointed out in the topix title, this is a new personal best for me. I'm really pleased. To give you a frame of reference, the world record is just over 6 hours...so I'm very fast, but clearly I'm still quite a way from the fasted person in the world.

Thoughts on all this?

That sounds awesome. Are you running into a lot of deaths/resets, or are there just techs that are too difficult for you right now that's prevent you from getting into Sub-7 times?

i will never understand the appeal of speedrunning

think of how much we could improve society if people spent all that time on science instead

I don't think so, Tim.

It's mostly technique. I don't have too many deaths, but of course there are always ways to be more efficient and go even faster. I'm very pleased with the approach I've developed, though. I must admit, however, I pretty much always make at least 2 or 3 stupid and SERIOUS mistakes. I've trimmed these down, which saves a lot of time, but still. A serious mistake can cost a few minutes, and for a serious speedrunner, that's very bad.

Speed running just seems stressful as fuck to me.

It would totally take away my enjoyment of a game, but i can see the appeal for some people

when youve played a game over and over and over just playing it normally has no enjoyment anymore

adding the speedrun element adds back some enjoyment

This is a very accurate way of putting it. Plus, of course, you can show just how good a gamer you are.

i've never really speedran anything before, but i was pretty stoked when i recently beat Limbo with ZERO deaths, while doing for the achievement of beating the game with 5 or fewer deaths. i kinda wish i recorded that run.

That makes sense actually.

I clocked some super fast times in re2 back in the day, not even so much cause I was trying to after unlocking everything, but just cause i didn't have many games back then and I had it dialled that well.
