I used to think the people (pawnee citizens at town halls and whatnot) were way too stupid to be accurate.

Then corona hit and made me realize people are actually that stupid.

But also the shots they use of Pawnee city hall is actually of the Pasadena California city hall so no Pawnee is not accurate

Pretty accurate. I'm from one of those towns. Of course it's played for laughs in the show but it has actual serious consequences irl.

Oh, that part is 100% accurate and you don't have to go to middle America to find it. Watch those Chad videos where he tries to give free masks away in California.

That's kind of what made me make the topic, always thought that the town was just a joke for the show, but the 2020 pandemic has really disillusioned me with a lot of America's level of intelligence.

Obviously everything is exaggerated a little bit for comedy, but these types of shows work in part because there's a nugget of reality behind them. Like, the issue with a lot of Midwest towns having almost no variety in food outside of major Burger chains is a real problem. Paunch Burger is obviously an exaggeration of that. The same with the idea that a major corporation is basically the only thing keeping a small town from total collapse. Obviously most of these companies aren't like sweetums, but the way they have control over the town is a very real thing.

it's exaggerated for effect but they leave out most of the really bad stuff that does happen. middle America/suburbia is rich for absurdity and a certain macabre.
