I don't know too much of the genre myself, but I did hear danganronpa is one of the better ones. There is a collection of that on the PS4 you could get.

EDIT: Sweet baby jesus the danganronpa trilogy physical disc is more than 100 bucks. Man now I am thinking about selling mine, lol.

Ok let me rephrase this; No Ace Attorney, because isn't that more of an adventure game? Besides, I have them all. Danganronpa, I suppose I should get it eventually, since it keeps coming up, but I was curious more on the true vn experiences, not the games that are kind of like vns.

the overwhelming majority of phoenix wright, danganronpa and zero escape are visual novels. there is very little in those games other than reading.
dont get steins gate elite, get the original steins gate

I can get it in a physical copy. This means a lot to me. Was elite a disaster that ruins everything or something?

As for if that is the case with Ace Attorney, I admit I am less than a novice at the genre, but is it normal to have to choose dialogue choices and solve puzzles to progress that frequently? The court cases are just puzzle after puzzle after puzzle, with yes, a lot of dialogue, but is that a normal choice to reading ratio?

I think I'll start out with Gate elite and Zero escape nonary games collection, unless there's some super huge reason I shouldn't play elite other than a personal preference for the original version.

I would call Ace Attorney visual novel/adventure games hybrid. The trials bits are almost pure visual novel, and the investigation bits are almost pure adventure games. I don't think their are many other VNs on PS4. Steins:Gate is great but I think the PS4 version was only released in japan. If you have even a shot half modern PC you should be able to read them on PC.

The PC just doesn't appeal to me as much as a console version. I'm a dyed in the wool console gamer. I blame it on me having a mac as a kid and before that an apple 2 e. The NES came into my life and I just never got into the pc gaming scene. I still am biased towards consoles to this day.

Thanks though, I got steins and the zero escape collection now, on ps3 and ps4. Heh. You might not realize this, but I like both collecting physical games and digital trophies. Somehow more than steam achievements.

elite is just the steins;gate anime retold in visual novel form, which means it is automatically inferior to the actual steins;gate VN.

Elite is a remake which uses scenes from the anime instead of the backgrounds and sprites of the original. It's up to you if you prefer that, personally - I think it loses a lot of soul and character. But Elite also removes a lot of content to "streamline" it, which makes it hard to recommend to someone playing Steins;Gate for their first time. The OG Steins;Gate isn't on PS4, so you'll have to get yourself a PS Vita or play it on Steam.

If you want a good visual novel on PS4, I'd recommend Chaos;Child. Set in the same universe as Steins;Gate, but is a totally different story.

I'm currently reading the final part of Higurashi When They Cry and that's been quite a ride. I don't know if it's on PS4, but it is straight novel. No choices or anything.
