Stuff like this:
(Cool stuff is around 17:00)

https://youtu.be/W6FbUiiwutQ

We have technology that produces these insanely high powered lasers that can burn shit from far away in a fraction of a second. A separate YouTube channel had a video about how he bought a 200 watt laser online from some guy that makes them in his garage.

Why are cops still using bullets when something like this could potentially be just as effective at stopping a perp, but with a lower risk of instantly killing them?

Is it a cost thing? Or is it worry that it won't incapacitate someone the way a bullet would? Or is it just gun worship culture?

I mean the way I look at it, getting shot in the head with a laser will burn you badly, maybe blind you, but won't kill you instantly the way getting shot with a bullet will.

I'd rather be blind than dead lol.

I'd rather not have to make the distinction between being blind or dead. I'd rather live without having to worry about that, especially considering the fact at any moment any of us can encounter a messed up situation that could leave us blind, injured, and/or dead.

See, I know nothing about laser physics. So that's why I'm asking. I see videos of people mounting these things to their cars and using them multiple times without any issue, so I don't really know what you mean by they don't have the batteries needed.

Right but that's why I'm wondering if laser weapons would be better, since it seems like there's less than can go wrong.

Like, poorly trained police officer + firearm can easily result in dead person. From my (admittedly limited) understanding of powerful lasers, it seems like they could easily incapacitate someone without the possibility of instantly killing them.

They're not connected to car batteries. They're running off fairly small batteries, that seem portable.

No.
"Severe thermal burn" or "permanent blindness" is the only result of current laser weapons.

A severe burn and being blinded isn't enough to incapacitate?

Like yeah I get that people on amphetamines and shit go super human lol, but I'm not suggesting to take away all guns from all police. But officers doing routine law enforcement on burglars, traffic stops, etc aren't exactly going after high profile threats on a daily basis either lol.

Even firing a laser capable of doing that much damage would probably instantly blind the operator and everyone around them without proper safety glasses

Yeah you can. It just has to be mounted on like a tank or something.

A bigger problem is a laser that large will damage all kinds of things, not just people. It's probably safer to use a flamethrower.

And if you used that powerful laser in public, you'd blind EVERYBODY near by who doesn't wear eye protection.

That could be hundreds of people going blind because they busted out the laser.

Or you could potentially start a fire in a urban environment if you miss.

The real danger is that even reflected beams off of matte surfaces can cause retinal damage from a class 4 laser. So if it hits any reflective surface it could easily blind a whole crowd, even standing away from the operator

The actual mechanism of it is quite nasty, essentially heating the water in your eye to the boiling point. Should definitely be considered a war crime if used by a militarized force

There's a reason why lasers are being used on US Navy Ships as "CIWS" supplement to bring down "Drones", "Missiles", "Bombs", etc.

Too easy to start a random wild fire.

Some officer uses their "Flame Thrower", and the wrong thing catches on fire, then the entire city burns down.

Sounds like a very dangerous idea.

Read the bold word again. If a perp is that dangerous, "pottentially" is a hell of a bad deal. Now "likely" is a much better one. And a bullet will likely stop the perp. Either dying, thinking you're dying, or just being in a shit ton of pain tend to stop violent offenders.
