From even before birth, they've always existed in an aquatic environment i.e. water.

Are they aware of how water feels, in the same vein as we understand surrounding air, or are they unaware?

Is water wet?

They probably think they're flying, and air is their version of "water" since they can only go in it temporarily and can't breathe in it.

what i'm more interested in is why deep sea creatures don't try to swim up or if it's physically impossible for them to swim that far like the (lack of)pressure would kill them.

They can probably tell the difference between different salinities in the same way we can feel differences in humidity
