Hes still twitching but about to die if not just muscle reactions. The store gave us a live baby rat instead of a frozen one on accident.

he was so active and playful the last week. Even when I got home he was fine. Then just now i checked and hes gone.

Now my wife is super upset and crying. She spent the last week feeding it every two hours and bathing it.

not sure what happened why a week later he died.

That's a shame. I didn't see the old topic but did he come with a batch of frozen ones? If so the freeze probably killed him and he was just on borrowed time

He was a feeder mouse. Not gonna live long anyway. As long as he was dying or dead you should have fed him to whatever was going to eat him.

From a practical standpoint he's right but sometimes the heart takes over. No one likes to see a small innocent creature dying. Totally different than if it's already dead

Sorry to hear it, you and your wife have a big heart for trying to keep it alive.

Feeder mice tend to be massively inbred because they are raised solely to be food. They don't tend to last very long unfortunately.

Thanks, I knew it was a long shot. But we have a lot of experience with exotic animals and rescues so we thought we had a chance. I just hated how he was up and running and then two hours later hes just kicking on his side dead.

I know some people think its stupid. But I like steak, doesnt mean I want to see them butcher the cow and prep the meat. Nor do I really want to know about it. But it was a cute baby rat that didnt know any better. At least we gave him a fun couple of days
